I just bought a Schuberth C2 off a fine fellow on this website and thought I would review for the benefits of other Tossers.

A bit of background. I passed my test 18 months ago and have done 10,000+ on my 1200 GS. Initially, I had a second hand full face Shark helmet which I bought cheap along with some used gear. Unfortunately I dropped it so it needed replacing.

I did loads of research on here and elsewhere and decided on the GSers favourite Arai Tour-x. While it fitted well, I liked the looks and the visibility was great it had several major draw backs for me. Mainly it is very noisey and the visor fogs all too easily. I fitted a Shoei Wisper kit as recommended on here which improved the matter but not sufficiently, so it had to go.

I have just done a 320 mile trip with the Schuberth, story told here.

I am very impressed.

Plus points

-definitely a quiet helmet. I initially forgot to put my plugs in and it was a while before I noticed. I then fitted them and very quite indeed.
-the build in sun visor is fantastic, I have no idea why every helmet does not have this. It is easy to slid down when the sun is in your eyes or generally bright and when it is dark just push back. Must be fantastic for going thru all these alpine tunnels.
-ventilation is excellent. You can noticibally feel the air coming in when you open either the top vent or the mouth vent. But better than that it has a "City Mode", when the visor pops forward giving fresh air over your face without it getting in your eyes.
-Full range of ventilation is, from maximum to minimum
-visor open, sun visor up
-visor open, sun visor down
-visor closed but popped into city mode
-visor completely closed but face and head vents open
-visor closed and all vents closed.

Minus points
-this is my first flip lid and they are not as easy to put on or take off than a full face. However you don't take them as often so this is not really a problem
-the flip lid release is a bit sticky so needs more pressure than you might expect to flip the lid
-the wind skirt round the neck, which is the key to the quiet helmet is a pretty neat fit. I have a long thin neck and although after 11 hours in the saddle I could feel minor rubbing, it was not an issue. I am not sure a thick necked person would be as happy.

Overall I am incredibly impressed. The build quality is very high and clearly the helmet thoughtfully designed.

For me the best feature is the sun visor, closely followed by the quietness of the helmet.

Hope this review proves useful to some.

Had mine for about a year now, bloody brilliant helmets. :thumb

There is one more ventilation option thats is to reverse the padding in the top of the helmet this either stops the airflow over your head or at least resricts the flow considerably.

. I am not sure a thick necked person would be as happy.

I lack any noticeable neck, but find the wind skirt on the previous model to be fine, except on hot summer days, when I could well manage without it. Might even be removable for all I know.

Recommended helmet. Would buy a new one if I needed one.
Ps; New versions can come with factory pinlock installed!

excellent helmet!!
Fit
Inital fit was very uncomfortable and wear had to be built up from 1 hour max for first use.....now fits superbly and can be worn all day without any problem!

Noise
I must say I don't find it that much quieter than other helmets, especially with the front vent open and with this vent open it is noisy enough to have the autocom kick in when "making progress" or in windy conditions. However, with custom earplugs which I wear most of the time this is not a major issue.

Operation
2 ring helmets are a bit of nightmare for me due to nerve damage in my fingers which causes me an increase in "fumble" and is the reason i got the c2!!opening and closing front, undoing the seat belt style fastener, lowering/ raising the sunvisor are all still a bit struggle for me, but c2 seemed the easiest to use of a variety of helmets tried out

overall very happy with it

I've had my C2 for about a year and really like it. After the anti-mist coating on the first visor went all crinkly I got a pinlock visor from the German outfit and it works well. Noise reduction is good, but I agree with Russ996duke that it's not that quiet - especially with the vents open.

The only thing that no-one has mentioned is that it is a very big and very heavy helmet. If I sit it next to my Arai Viper GT I can see that it has a noticeably bigger shell and it weighs 15% more. The additional weight may not sound much but combined with the size catching more wind I do find it more tiring on all-day rides.

That said it's a good helmet.

The shell is so big it won't fit in the right hand BMW system pannier on my 1100, my old System 4 helmet went in fine. My C2 is a medium. It's quite a nice helmet but mine doesn't get enough air in the front (big windscreen) and misted horribly. I don't think there could have been any coating on the visor. A Fog City insert cured the problem completely. Anyone else find the peripheral vision a bit limited?

Anyone gone from a Roof 010 Diversion to this helmet? curious about the comparisons in noise.

I don't NEED:rolleyes: another helmet, but

C2's

I had one for three months, brilliant helmet, i for the first time ever had abirds about the same size as a blackbird hit the side of the helmet. Dunno
what happend to the bird but it knocked off the visor retaining button ( black disc) which disapeared!, visor flapping in the breeze so might be a good idea
to carry a spare button with you. Had to fix it with a nut and bolt difficult when it happens in the middle of Mexico, next day wrote it off!!. Cant wait to get another.

Had mine for three years now, C1 before that. Great lid, although the red pins that show if the chin piece is locked down are a pain, as they don't always pop down all the way. Would definitely buy another.

I too was drawn to the C2, because of the sun visor and the legendary quietness but when I tried them on in the shop I just couldn't get a size that fitted my head. I went instead for the S1 which has all the benefit of the C2 but without the flip-up function. I'm well pleased with the S1 for much the same reasons and can recommend it as an alternative if your head is not the right shape for the C2.

BTW my visor went all crinkly too and I had to get a replacement from the Germans. This one thankfully has been fine and generally stays clear, providing the vents are opened in cold weather. I'l definately be going for a pinlock one next winter, from experience that technology works great.

My previous helmet was a Shoei XR -1000 and to be honest I can really detect any reduction in noise levels.

Thanks for the suggestion on the padding. The back of my head gets quite cold - i'll try that to reduce the airflow in this cold weather.
