Whilst he was honest enought to say that riding over the road humps in London may have had a negative impact on his machine, would it be fair to suggest that he rides over them too fast?

He knows a Ducati would fall apart from repeated 30mph humpings, but perhaps he expects the rufty-tufty GS to be able to cope with 60mph humpings ...

So Hammond "humps too quick". Apparently a lot of girls say that. :D

The last time I bought MCN was in 1998 - and that was only cos I turned up at the pub too early and bought it to pass the time away.

Paralever bearings, MOT & A SERVICE WERE THE GRIPES, 'scuse capitals, el vino strikes again.

What does it matter if you dont buy MCN ???...what does it matter if you agree OR disagree with Hammonds comments .....they are merely OPINIONATED COMMENTS made by somebody who is too used to getting fast disposable FREEBIES. Welcome to the real world of owning a motorcycle dude. It costs time, money and devotion. My opinion ? (for what its worth)....I love my 1150...Im NOT a millionaire and Im NOT so full of testosterone or bravado not to be able to say that Im certainly NOT going to be one of those who jumps on the bandwagon and suddenly starts to slag my bike (or anyone elses for that matter). My bike breaks down, my bike needs servicing and it takes money from me that I really should use elsewhere. Count yourself lucky Mr Top Gear that youve got 600 notes to hand to throw at something which you dont really understand. If you dont like the BM - do me a favour and ditch it before you bring us down anymore. For gods sake, MCN have worked alongside BMW really well over the past 12 months to promote the marque and give everyoen involved a bit of credibility. My next bike will be a BM provided Ive got the dosh. Rant over.......p.s....Hello chaps :rob

Perhaps he has problems because he is a short arsed little w*nker and the GS is really just a fashion accessory for him to make him look rough and tough like the rest of us owners?

I'd like to know to what extent the irritating little cnut has improved MCN's circulation figures.
I'm sure there must be a few who have been tempted back into buying it on a regular basis just for incisive and well observed motorcycling anecdotes.

Actually his write up was spot on..if I recall wasn't it about £700 for the work but he did mention BWM would repair the bearings at no cost to him. Like most bikers..he's building himself up to a change of manufacturer/type etc etc
to keep the enthusiasm alight...good on him :thumb

I think he spoke up for a lot of people p=ssed off with the way the might Germans have let their standards slip. £700 bill; I'm laughing :)

BMW dealers usually replace the paralever bearings without trying to adjust them. They usually only get damaged enough to have to replace if left unadjusted for a long period.
I would have adjusted it for free ( as i do for many people), then see how it goes before spending money replacing it.

Still, he got to write two stories from the same saga, one in MCN, other in the Daily Mirror. So i'd imagine he actually made money on his "disaster". Nice work if you can get it . :D

...noting that Mr. R. Hammond owns a GS, is he a to$$er as far as we know?

Would he be welcome?

Of course he would :nod

He's not on though...he can't reach the keyboard :D

Rear drive bearings................................

If it helps, my winter hack (R1100Rt has spat out two rear drive bearings and also destroyed one UJ in 60 thousand miles.

Perhaps he has a point. I have ridden hundreds of thousands of miles on Airheads, Earlier k series and variopus jap shaft drive bikes (CX500, XJ900 Kawasaki GT550 / 750 etc) without a sniff of a shaft drive failure prior to getting the R1100.

Perhaps I don't really want to invest in a R1200GS after all?

Is it a common failure on these?

Cheers,
Shadow.

Some complete stranger knocked on my door this morning waving a copy of MCN in my face.

I had just finished cleaning the bike and it was looking lovely.
He showed me the article and offered me £87.47 for it.

I thought that was a fair price so I let it go.... reluctantly

Now then.... looking for a late ADV with all the toys and I can go to £100.

Not all at once now :P
