Ricky Bars

Re: Re: Re: Personal Preference

I'd say what Bob said earlier... if you only ride your bike a few miles a week, on sunny Sundays, than you're absolutely right not to spend that kind of money. It would be criminal.

but if you do ride a lot of miles, anyone who's tried the Ricky bars knows that it's the bees knees, and probably the first customization you need to do on any bike.

So I'd say it's a question of sense, not money.

When I use my bike it tends to be for long runs, I dont use it everyday , as I only live 3 miles from work, and I have a car for mundane traveling.

Dont know about down south, but here in Scotland £200 is a weeks wages to most people.

this from the guy who splashed out on that flash new tank colour scheme!:D

I'll have you know a lot of time and effort went into planning that colour scheme..........lots more than it took to rip it back off again :D

Maybe I look at money differently as I wouldn't translate £200.00 into riding miles as I ride when I want to, not when I have money.

So whats the secret ? How do you get your bike to run on no money ? :P

Your bike is probably only 1000 £ of metal, so why did you buy it then ???

The award for the stupidest question goes to :D

Cheers Ricky now I know where the cost comes from.
You will have noticed I never at any time rubbished your product, just expressed my opinion that £200 for a set of bars and clamps was excessive, and then I got rather pissed of to be told by more than one person that I was narrow minded becuase of this.

I "personally" have no comfort problems with the O/E bars, even after eight hours riding.
Tho I do have problems with the saddle after eight hours :(

I wont be ordering your bars any time soon, as Ive just asked the wife if i can have £200 for a set of handlebars, and now she's cleaning up the cornflakes she spat over the floor. :P

~Stef~

I glad we understand each other, good for you that you have no pain, maybe someday you get to ride a bike them and you will see the diference

when I use to sell Bicycles I used this example...I will ask the client,,"do you like wine?? can you tell the diference in between a $3 dollar bottle and a $300 dollar one"
and i will say something like "if you can not tell the diference Lucky You go for the least expensive bike that provide your needs"..in my case I did not even like the "$300 dollar bottle" (bikes) not because i'm a snob but because when you ride them all the time your taste and awareness levels change...

so just for curiosity how big or shinny the object will need to be to justified a 200pound expense..

I'm really glad we clarified this,I for sure don't spect to see one of my bars on each bike,so I was not really surprise with your opinion..
my self i will not spend ONE dollar in something that is just Cosmetic..like a paint job or some useless carbon fibre trim,,but that is just me..to Functional for good or bad.

you see I guess we actually play for the same team,,

please show me tha fancy painjob(funny i just did a comment about cosmetic improvemnts, but i did not read about this)

I'm sue you know about endless hours of work,,if you offer this tank for sale and people say "are you crazy 20 euros that is way to much money for just a bunch of paint..."
how will you feel:confused:
only you know how many hours took you to design and mask the whole thing,,ussually is much more than they eye can see.

Think you'll find "Spanish Bob" was being sarcastic :D

The "paint job" he refers to was two pieces of silver foil tape I stuck on my tank cover, it took all off 5 minutes, and I removed them right after taking the photo.

I agree with you on the function before form, one of the reasons I bought a GS is no matter what "practical" parts you bolt to them they still look as ugly as the day they left factory. :D

I think Nick is refering to the fact that he is able to ride anytime he wants and the capital require to operate the vehicle is a totally irrelavant element on his desision...

I also need to tell you that many times I can not go places because the lack of Funds and it Sucks really bad,but live is for sure very strange that way, even then does not give anybody the right to critize anybody else because they have it and you don't(i'm not trying to offend anybody here,,I'm still figuring this out my self).

in my old country people use to say..
"God gives food to the one that does not have any teeth"...
but after a few years I also got to understand that many times you chose your own destiny and for sure you priorities..
I also believe you better try & experience whatever you feel like doing when you can, because life is to short to wait for a tomorrow that may never come..

Listen Stef, you don't need to type slowly, I understand what you are saying.

I never said in any of my posts that I don't have any money and infact you suggested I have more money than sense, which of course is your opinion, and if I do what is it to do with you infact?

All I am saying is I can have the bars and ride my bike whenever I like as money is not a problem, maybe you are in a different situation, but please don't judge me, when you have never met me.

I thank you for understanding that maybe I am in a more fortunate position to be able to afford this than maybe others.

I started this thread to show an excellent piece of craftsmanship installed and to comment and recommend them to those that where interested and could stretch to afford them.I believe you created the price issue in your comments.

Can we now move on please and stop the petty comments on what was meant to be a useful thread.

Nick

Exelent sugestion Nick is easy to tell you have the avility to see the "Bigger picture"

so for starters...
can you make a side by side comparasion of the features and like's and dislike's of the two bars and what you feel they acomplish.
sound like you have a pretty good understanding of body dinamics and for sure posses a exelent level of verbal expression...oh believe me I'm emvius,i can express my self with drawings and prototypes but at talking and typing i'm pretty lamme.

Ricardo,

I've emailed you 7 or 8 times but I guess that after your accident you're not yet feeling 100% yet or your emails are playing up again. I would like a set of your magnificent risers and some bars, as field tested and recommended by Nick and Migsel. But is it my understanding that you are no longer able to supply them or have you a few sets still available? PLEASE HELP :) .

Chris

I dont want to get into the money rant that this thread seems to have turned into but i ride every day comuting and fun, so if there is anything that i can bolt on to make that an even more enjoyable experiece then im all for that. Mark :0)

yeah is pretty much the truth,,at least in a momentary stage, I'm working some loans and new business structures so i can keep providing the service.

not to make this into a money focus tread but let me tell you is very dificult to make the right manufacturing desisions when you don't have much capital,to me this small business is like riding a small two strokes Bike on a step hill, you make a mistake on the gear selection or the trottle opening or enter a corner with out momentum, and you are going to be in trouble,it happend to me ones when I decide to make parts for the Roadsters and Rocksters that did not sell to well and I definitlly stall the engine down when I absolutlly run out of capital after I made to many parts for my GPS mounts, but not all the ones require(nine diferent) to really sell them..

don't worry I be back soon at least soon enogh.
