RID…engine oil temperature, R1100GS

my engine oil temperature indicator keeps going blank.

the bike is a 1995 R1100GS

every time I start riding, the temperature indicator seems to work as expected, gets up to 3 or 4 bars, but normally after 5 to 10 minutes all the bars disappear

sometimes they come back on, but never for long

anyone know what the problem is and how to fix it?

I had a similar problem on my 1100RS. It turned out to be a dodgy connector between the RID and the main loom. Cleaning the connector cured the problem. It could also be a dodgy connection for the RID fuse, though without checking I can't remember if the RID fuse also protects other components, in which case they would play up too. No doubt someone will be along soon to advise.
