Over the next few months, RiDE magazine are publishing a series of hints’n’tips. To many this will be old hat or “Obvious, mate”, no doubt. But who knows, there might be some nuggets of wisdom somewhere in them. Here’s the first.

I think these articles are like the Bikesafe course. They remind us of the small variations in road position or stance that make each rider smoother and safer. It surprises me when following no biker mates along twisty or dual carriageways the variety of positions folk adopt to obstacles ( cars) and corners.

The biker in the pictures is Giles ( ex of this parish) Those images are from a series of videos Suzuki /Rapid training ( IIRC) did on the subject of corners

It was called ride like Pro and i think the naration is Giles too

If that was Giles of Rapid Training fame, I did a three day course with him a couple of Septembers ago round some fine roads in West Kent.
An absolute blast and I still learned some more -it takes a long time to sink in.
I remember him saying "easy ,easy" "easy " as I was rushing into the odd corner a bit fast to fast to get a decent line and the power on earlier.
Any training you do will improve your riding. Rapid is real world motorcycling. Fortunately I had the background of IAM training to start me off.
The day you stop learning is the day you die.
Sadly you hear too often " I don't think I have any more to learn"....

I can remember when Giles first joined the forum and he was being regularly lambasted for some of his comments about riding. I can't remember any more detail than that. He was a good guy and I would like for him to re-join, although I very much doubt he will...

I had a day with him also in kent along with Andres ( also ex of this Parish) it was a great day out and i did learn quite alot on top of what i thought was me being a good and fast rider

The thing i remember most fondly and for fun was that whilst i was on a 1260 Multi strada pikes peak and Giles was on a 790 duke i was riding at the top of my game to keep up and he wasnt !

Every day should be a school day and a refusal to learn from people like Giles is just sheer ignorance and stupidity

Like Engineer telling him that he didnt know how to change gear on a bike FFS

My helmet isn't big enough for 5 letters.... the pain involved makes my eyes water just thinking about it

Just been to Spain with another rider from Giles’ old bike team, following his lines was a bonus lesson amongst a week of laughs and beers.
Giles and Les from on here both now work for Rapid and one of Giles’ routes goes past my house pretty closely so I do see him now and again. He’s a nice guy
