Ride in Biblical Rain Review (gear)

Daytona boots for me - would buy another pair if I could find a reason for having a grands worth just standing around.
Gloves - almost nothing will keep it out in my experience.

BMW Streetguard suit, Gravel boots and Held 2-1 gloves. Dry as a bone. Have Shoei Neotech 2 which is crap after a couple of hours. Mist creeps round from the side hinge and water gets through the top seal.

+ 1 on Daytona boots. I tried loads of other boots to prevent shelling out £400 for the Daytona's. I really shouldn't have bothered and will never buy another boot make again.

Normally ride in Dianese gortex boots in the winter months , never leaked and Gortex pac light jacket and trousers over my leathers , never had issues.
I have used the Climate BMW waterproof set before and brilliant , just bulky to carry , so the paclite is a better option and does the same job.
Gloves , good old BMW gortex with the finger wipe , 6 years old now , never failed.

I also think that with gloves, even the most expensive Goretex ones.......the leaking process is speeded up by using your heated grips.

Put a cheap one or two piece nylon rainsuit over your expensive twat suit or Rukka gear & you'll be even drier.
Not yet found any gloves that stay non porous in 40 years.
Boots with a Gore-Tex liner seem to manage.

This, or, better still, over your inexpensive suit. Simples really :thumb2

The myth ( for want of a better word ) with Gore tex is that it is waterproof and breathable. Both statements are true but not at the same time

If its raining the Gore will keep your habds dry from the rain but there is no breathing per se and heated grips IMO then allow the pores in the gore to either open and let damp in or just sweat your hands

Shoei neotec 2 not that good in the rain, ten year old Rukka armas never been wet or cold, BMW enduro suit seperate gore-tex liner all dry after five hours rain, Alt-berg hoggs four years old still dry, Gloves?? The search continues.

It's encouraging seeing all the people who are staying bone dry - suggests that kit is much better than it was a few years ago.

Or maybe that we're just spending more on it nowadays..!

Anyway... re the gloves, even the ones I've had that have been waterproof, fail when you inevitably have to retrieve a credit card from an inner pocket, or similar, and your hands get wet never to recover.

At least with heated grips, your wet hands can be warm - much better then the old days of seriously wet/cold hands.

I bought some end of sale cheap gortex own brand gloves from Hein Gerik about 6 years ago. They have never let a drop of water through, I normally put the heated grips on when it's raining as the temperature normally drops. Never sweaty hands either.
Boots, Daytona never leak and last for ages and fully repairable.

Keyless, contactless credit card.

No need to take gloves off

I put a spare credit card in the Klim Sleeve pocket, ideal for contactless payments

Came back from Strontian last week,

Soaked to the bone, had to pour the water out of my 6 month old Hypora lined boots - usless

Frank Thomas jacket - leaked only from the arms

RST pro adventure trousers - Leaked from the crotch & were wet at the bottom where they met the boots (so the wetness there could be related)

Richa gloves - usless full stop

The Scorpion AX0 helmet didnt leak or fog (pinlock visor)

My merino undertop & cycling vest helped to elimate a lot of the feeling of water of my torso

going to look at some differnt stuff over winter

RST Adventure boots sold as waterproof....aren't. Wouldn't buy another pair for that reason alone. My Altberg combat high boots are more waterproof. Need to search out better boots that don't cost the earth.

Held Air 'N Dry gloves...had them just over a year now and been out in some stonking downpours. The only gloves that I've ever owned that haven't let in a drop even in prolonged journeys through rain. Big tick.

RST pro series adventure 3 trousers...waterpoof as long as you take care to ensure the WP liner is properly over the boots but can get a little damp in the crotch area if you don't use them with a 3/4 length jacket..great bit of kit otherwise with good protection. Suffers from what most cordura garments suffer from....inner liner is waterproof but outer gets soaked and then gets very cold as the water evaporates. I wear Ron Hill bikesters under them to help keep the legs warmer. I find Marino wool thermal leggings too warm not to mention itchy!

Halvarssons base layer long sleeved perforated top with wind breaker front. The best base layer ever for bikers! Warm and toasty worn as the only later under my Prime jacket yet keeps cool enough when the thermometer picks up (very breathable).

Halvarsson's Prime jacket...not ventured out in the rain since owning it but others who have the same jacket praise it for keeping the rain out.

BMW EnduroGuard suit (substantial, waterproof but also well ventilated for summer. No thermal liner so need separate warm layers for colder weather), Daytona TravelStar GTX boots (very solid and waterproof), BMW 3 in 1 gloves (waterproof; first pair lasted about 2 years/15000 miles and now on second set) and Shoei Neotec 2 helmet (visor does not seal very well and so leaks a bit and then gets steamed up even with the Pinlock insert fitted). Previously had a BMW StreetGuard suit which was also waterproof.

Not fully repairable. My 6 year old ones leak now. Daytona have said I can have them resoled for 100£ but they cannot repair the W proofing. I may try going through forested for a repair
