Riders Rally

Yes ........ even "The Londoners" have arrived on the Island and are busting to go !!!

Never did this rally, was considering the OldThumpers, starting point at the Shanks, not exactly on my doorstep, many participating?
Might give Grumpy a buzz ;)

This is my one "must do" rally each year ... better not to ask how long I have been going to it !!

Numbers vary greatly - could be anything from 80 to 200 bikes !!
You'll see parts of Ireland you would not normally see (worth taking the suggested route for each section) ... and you never know where you are going next !!

Tell grumpy if he goes I will buy him the 2 pints I owe him on Saturday night

Google: DMTC , Riders rally

click on events - riders rally and have a read

secret checkpoint rally - for us it's 1000 miles door to door normally , camping (unless rich / prebooked :))

Start near Trim this year - I don't advise starting on the Saturday !!

Haven't heard of this one.

What is it and where is it

Heff

The Riders Rally is in it's 38th or 39th year this year Heff. It always takes place on the August bank holiday weekend. It is organised by the DMTC (Dublin Motorcycle Touring Club) and is open to all.

Essentially it is a point to point mystery tour around the country. You are told the starting point and no more than that. It is only when you arrive at a point that you are told where the next one is.

For example, on Friday the rally starts near Summerhill, Co Meath. When we get there we will be told the location of the Friday overnight which will be about 100 miles away.

On Saturday we will have two or three "flythrough " checkpoints which are typically at a pub or cafe in a wee village. So, after leaving the place where we have spent the Friday night we will ride to the first checkpoint and it is only when we get there that we discover where the next one will be. And so on.

You can camp or stay in hotels. You pre-book your accommodation with the club, but obviously they don't tell you where the hotels are. But when you turn up at the overnight halt there is a room there for you.

More details here. :thumb2

It's a rally for those who love to ride their bikes and to see parts of the country you might not otherwise go. It is highly recommended.

See you on Friday?..........................

There it went & good it was
