The Ridgeway ride is cancelled - please see this thread

http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?t=72500

The Ridgeway is open to Traffic from Monday 1st May - if anyone is interested in a ride from Streatley to Avebury please post your name below.

I'd like to aim for a 10am start and depending on numbers/experience expect it to take 3-4 hours. Pub lunch at Avebury

It was GS friendly last year and hopefully hasn't been chopped up too much by tractors etc over the winter.

If the weather is dry in the preceeding week then Tourances will be ok otherwise you'll need TKC80s - if it rains a lot in the preceeding few days then it's no fun at all on a GS.

If dry it will be suitable for GSers wanting an introduction to greenlaning on their GS - you can get some idea of what the tracks are like here... http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?t=53328

So far we have...

Blue Sweeper
blues n twos
Gauloises
Jarv
Jeremy
Clive ( probably not on my GS though :o )

Clive,

When I said I could make it anytime I didn't realise you would pick the day of the FA cup final!!! Plonker. I will be in Spain that day glued to the telly.

I guess there will be other weekends and Wednesday evenings to follow.

Sorry mate - I don't follow football so makes no difference to me other than the Ridgeway may have less traffic on it

Once the monthly bike meets on a Wednesday at Avebury start again I'm sure there will be a several evening trips over there :thumb

If I decide on a recce (probably a Wednesday) before the 13th I'll let you know.

Yawn! 22 Grown man kicking a puff of wind around a field with a silly git blowin' a whistle at them and 22 million men screaming at them.

Gets me when "mummy" runs onto the field with a wet sponge to rub them better when they roll over in agony after a fall and then get up after the rub to run off happy as larry. :nenau

Darn, I'm in north wales on the f650 rally that weekend.

still, i only live about 20 miles from the ridgeway, so could go up anytime really :D

Count me in. Can I also come on my little DR if the weather is nasty? :mmmm

Of course you can. As things have turned out - unless it has been dry all the preceeding week I'm likely to be on my TTR250 anyway "just in case" - I'm off to Spain/France for a week leaving on the 14th :)

I'm green with envy... Mind you, one week is a bit short for France and Spain, isn't it? ;)

Am thinking of buying a second set of wheels for my GS and fit them with TKCs, but probably won't have realised this plan by May 13th - too much going on at the weekends till then... :D

Clive, where are you meeting to start? - is it feasible to ride my DRZ to the meeting point?

cheers,

Phil

The start of the Ridgeway at Streatley is here

http://www.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?lat=51.527&lon=-1.1850&scale=25000&icon=x

N51 31.639 W1 11.082

I'm about an hour away from Eynsford by motorway (if that helps ;) ) and about 10miles SE of Streatley - might be a bit of a trek on the DRZ ? - if you are thinking of Van/Trailer you will often find people park at the start of the Ridgeway or you could park at my house.

Avebury is approx 45 miles West of Streatley - but after lunch there are a number of options - usually I get back to Reading down the A4 but there are loads of other Byways in the area and dozens of ways back onto the Ridgeway.

Pictures look ok ... but is it really beginner friendly?

Hi guys,

I'm interested in coming along for this jaunt down the ridgeway on my 1150GSA ... if the weathers fine ... is it really easy for beginners? .... I don't mind dropping my GSA .... just don't want to have to pick it up afterwards!

Pretty easy for beginners if it is dry - I'm sure you'll have help picking it up - just after the obligatory photo call :D

.... well it's what GS's are made for.

Excellent .... fingers cross for good warming dry weather (for the week before hand as well).

I may be up for it (will know nearer the time). but must admit bit nervouse, after last time :-) at least I wouldn't get too cocky this time, learnt my leason and have tank bars now :D and I have TKC's now.

I took my GS on the ridgeway last year.

Excellent, as long as clive doesn't take you on any of his 'off ridgeway' jaunts. ;)
