So regarding the above, I know that it's mandatory in France at least, for the rider to wear CE gloves, but is it for pillion too?

It just makes sense to wear them regardless, the chances of the Gendarmerie pulling you over to check, is, of course very slim.
probably very slim , .....but once they have you , they'll look at everything.
and why would you be riding without gloves ?

Nobody, not least the French police (or anywhere else for that matter) is going to be in the slightest bit interested in the CE markings of your gloves, let alone your pillion’s.
Each time the local Fed’s have seen fit to engage with me in a professional capacity, all they have taken an interest in were, in no particular order:
My V5, driving licence, sometimes my insurance but, most importantly: The speed showing on their radar gun, my myopic failure to observe a stop line, an illegal exhaust (noise only) and my inability to apparently understand the obscure locals laws as to what an unbroken white means. To this list, you can add, their devilish interest the ready state of my wallet, from which there was no distracting them. Those and sometimes a breath test.
Helmet, gloves, GPS device, the make (and state of) my tyres and whether I owned a cat, did not come into it once.

I can add: GB sticker, headlight stickers, helmet stickers, hi-viz jacket. They do not care.

The Germans care about a GB sticker. I was assured of this by a German policeman, who was interviewing me for assorted heinous motoring crimes. It’s a bit rich, considering they murdered millions. But that is all in past.

I've been lucky (multiple times) then.
But, to be fair, my GS has an old plate with the blue GB/EU strip. I think that will work in lieu of the sticker.

My otherwise fully legal number plate did not have one. I did though point out that the plate did show BMW Park Lane’s address. I was then told by the German policeman that “BMW is not a country”. He plainly knew his stuff and spoke perfect English. It’s not something that you could say about many British coppers.

Thanks people, I wasn't referring to NOT wearing gloves, just if they were CE or not-good to know they won't bother checking.
And now it's a "UK" sticker, assuming your vehicle is UK registered.

Had the question of CE marked gloves come up at work, we’d have nodded sagely and said, “Yes, they are a must”….. then tittered to ourselves when matey went out to buy some.

Was told by a local biker in Austria that riding there with flip helmet up would be considered as riding without a helmet unless the helmet was rated to operate flipped-up.

I was told by a local biker that you go as fast as you like. That proved to be bollocks. I can only suspect that it had lost something in the translation.
