Riding The Ridgeway - Friday 30 April

'kin ell Greg, that's one hell of a schlapp on tarmac riding a dirtbike. Is anyone trailering?, I still haven't got fixed up with a trailer (yet) and I really don't fancy riding my XR250 down to wiltshire.

Does anyone have any (positive) suggestion?

Have you spoken to jenks? He has a 3-bike trailer and, by my count, there is one spare place on it!

I can't bunk off but I can give you some info, I rode the Ridgeway with Mucky Helmet last year and as per the pictures there are places where it is so heavily rutted that you wouldn't get through on a GS a few of the ruts we went through were waist deep while sitting on the bike!

Most of the Ridgeway is flat but there are some excellent little 'diversions' that you can make especially around the intersection with the M40 (there is a bridge where the Ridgeway goes underneath) I'll have a look and see if I have the map marked up and post the info!

Cheers

Dave

Greg,

A question for you, is there a layby or other parking on the road from Alton Priors to Lockeridge? if not where do you suggest we meet and parkup????

Roy is coming to my place and we are picking Phil up on the way, we are aiming to be there for a 9.30 start.

My mobile is 07956 365157, can we have yours incase of a holdup

Andrew.

Jenks, try this link which shows the location at a different zoom level. As you will see, the map shows a carpark.

I don't think that Roy is coming - he PM'd me to say that he thought that the ride would be too difficult for him (or was it that his boss wouldn't let him have the time off?)

Dave (ktm520) and I also plan to be there for a 09.30hrs start. I haven't got hold of mrTickle yet, but I guess that he'll be looking for a trailer ride down.

It looks like it could be wet!

My mobile is 07831 343000

Greg

Can you pm me your full address.

Unfortunately I don't have the benefit of a GPS.

Is Mr Tickle coming with us ?

Dave

Greg,

Roy not coming is news to me, the last time I spoke with him, he was coming and wanted a trailer lift?? I'll phone him later, I don't think Mr Tickle is coming either.......all very confusing.....I'll be there anyone else????

Thank for the map
AJ

Unfortunately, Roy is unable to bunk off work. :( Due to the boss not understanding the delights of riding an orange pogo-stick :(

I'll be thinking of you guys while I'm stuck in the office.

So Jenks, thanks for the offer but I can't take you up on the place on the trailer. :beerjug:

On the day there were just four of us: Phil Reynolds, jenks (Andrew), ktm520 (Dave) and me.

We started at the southern end of the Ridgeway and, on a fairly wet day, rode 33.1 miles north before the lure of a pub lunch got the better of us and we headed south again.

Conditions ranged from hub-deep mud to high-speed puddles - well, lakes more like - of similar depth evidenced by the quantity of water we left in the pub bar! Mile after mile of deep rut indicates how the Ridgeway perhaps got its name!

Several falls from each rider only served to add to a great day out!
