Having had a new engine 150 miles ago due to salt corrosion should I keep my bike away from the roads at the moment or is it ok to ride and just hose down afterwards?
I'm probably a bit paranoid!

Acf 50 or fs 365 or....

Lots of anti corrosion stuff now available, main thing is to start as you mean to go on.

Good luck with the new engine.

Depends if it's a bike or a garage queen. Personally I find the idea of a GS being a garage queen a bit daft, but each to their own. Mines seen 5 winters now, including commuting and whilst it's a bit rough around the edges it generally scrubs up fine. ACF 50 helps, but realising it's just a bike to be ridden helps more.

I just bought some acf50. I'll give it a good spray before I take it out! It's def not a garage queen!

I've only ever used FS365. I spray it on the night before a day on the bike, and have never had any corrosion issues. The only reason I haven't ridden for a couple of weeks is due to social commitments, but I'll be out on mine next weekend, and have no concerns about corrosion.

What do you do post-ride Nutty? Wait until the engine cools and hose it down?

Been riding for the last couple of weeks with salt on the roads, FS365 seems to be its job so far.

as long as you wash down with cold water first that should get the most of the salt off .warm water reactivates the salt causing the corrosion to start .as stated douse with suitable anti corrosion stuff . its metal so it will rust just a matter of how fast .

Having lived in Deutsche Land for many years the roads there received far more regular salt treatments than compared with the UK - so you would think BMW would have any potential corrosion issues taken care of.....

thought it was only the u.k that still used salt the rest of the world moving on with better solutions .

Just ride it..in a couple of weeks it will have dissolved just claim on the insurance report as stolen...:green gri

Eight years old, ridden during winter, 125,000 miles and absolutely no corrosion, but then it's only an 800GS ...

... only ever used FS365. Good coating before winter, good coating on Spring clean :thumb

Re applied occasionally through winter, or after washing sprayed with Putoline 1001 maintenance spray (kinda like a WD40)

Stop Corrosion

Coating of GT 85 after each wash , only £1.95 a tin works brilliantly and no corrosion.😜

They seem to use a grit, rather than salt over there. They don't salt for environmental reasons and whatever they use is far more effective anyway.

Unfortunately, we are using salt here in Ireland too.

It's really bad this year! It breaks my heart looking at it after a good spin, you don't mind when it gets mucky during the "summer" at least you know it's just dirt.
It's getting to the stage where the wife is timing me cleaning the bike........ for ammunition during future rows!!

Are they still adding treacle/ molasses to the salt? Every vehicle is black and sticky here after last week's road salting : at least number plates can't be read
