Right hand controls replacement

Due to a slight accident I've managed to fry the lighting wires that
lead up to the light switch. I've taken the unit off and the Clymer
manual implies that the whole thing isn't "user serviceable" so
rather than replacing the burned out cables I'd need to get the
whole thing replaced. Depending on how expensive it is I don't
mind replacing it as it would be easiest but if they're typically expensive can it be fixed? Also, to stop this happening again, if I want to put a fuse in there somewhere, does anyone know what rated fuse it should be? It's an 1150 Adventure btw. Any help much appreciated, thanks.
