Bike is a 2004 R1200GS, and after 110 k miles it has bust the driveshaft. I have half of the gearbox end of the UJ stuck on the shaft, and it doesn't want to come off. Looking at alternatives I am considering removing the swinging arm to give better access, however I have never done so before, and looking at the pivot (on the right as you sit on the bike (round bit with a torx screw in the middle and three allen bolts around that)) I can't see an obvious way to remove it. Before I make matters worse by bodging it I thought I'd ask here if anyone can explain what I need to do?

There is a good demonstration of the procedure on the following YouTube link, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BsS8y6YlbkM . The mechanic used a homemade type slide hammer to remove the bung. Hope this helps...

Be aware that the early versus later dive shafts have a different number of splines when you source a replacement item.

Thanks both for the quick and really informative responses! Sometimes I wonder what I'd do without this place. I already have a spare driveshaft sat on the shelf, but can't really check the splines are the same until I get the old one off, still it's good to be pre warned of a potential issue.

I used an M6 cap screw and fork ended flat crowbar. This needed very little pressure to lever out the bearing mount and cost me nothing. Cornflakes packet cardboard protected the paint.

I'll remember that next time. Ended up prying the driveshaft end off without removing the swing arm, so all sorted now.
