Right leg under thigh getting cooked

Update.

Just got back from the Stealers and they say they have updated the software and serviced it. I must say its a vast improvement. Still warm on the right foot but no way near the burning leg I had before. I think I might get one of those deflector things mentioned earlier and that should do it. Gonna have to live with blue pipes for a while tho. :augie

I’ve also got the same issue, mine is a 16 GSA with factory fitted Akropovic. First noticed it when the heat stroke hit and I literally thought I could feel flames! Hasn’t been as bad since but it’s still noticeably uncomfortable, but with this being my first GS I assumed it was normal. I’ll keep an eye on this then report back to my dealer. Any concerns of serious damage potentially being caused, as I do a fair few miles?

Is the common element here aftermarket exhausts?

No defo not the issue, as I ran mine for the first 12 months on a standard can and it was burning my wife's thigh and leg and my foot and calf, It's also melted the number plate. I then put the straight through carbon Remus on hoping to clear the gasses a little quicker and lower the temperature, but all that happen was the heat was that intense it burnt through the can. I've now returned to the standard can and its back to the way it was when I first got it. Why I didn't report it then was that there was another gas 2017 on our tour which was exactly the same. Germany have had all my data now for 2 weeks and have still not back in touch yet...................

BMW Motorrad have had my bike for 3 weeks now and have decided that they can't find anything wrong with it,even though there are plenty with the same problem around the world.but they wanna buy it back off me.#BMWMotorrad https://t.co/CktgkFLLQc

So why not let them have it back...........
Because there's garage in Sheffield who has seen the video and pictures, they have told me that they will do a full check on the cam timing, valve and shims. They are convinced the timing is out. Which is more than BMW have done. They will do a full check and video all work and give me a full report, after speaking to BMW today I asked the dealer principle if the cam covers had been removed and timing checked and he could not answer the bloody question.........

Had a phone call off the bowler business manager yesterday, Telling that they have checked the cam timing on the bike and it was out. They said the cam lock would not line up and they had to make an adjustment of about 1mm . after the test ride the bike seems very smooth and the heat from the exhaust is minimal. I'm picking it up on Friday, I've got 300-mile weekend test ride on the bike to Lincoln and back, so what this space

I am surprised to learn that the camshaft timing/positioning setting is friction based only.

Since the problem was not there in the beginning, is there any chance that the timing for some reason shifted slightly at the time the hot pipes became an issue?

I have to admit that all of a sudden the extra tools for dead accurate finding of TDC and positioning of the camshafts make more sense.

The pipes and exhaust have always been hot, from day1. I was told it was the euro4 emissions and lived with it for 12 months......
