Road Attack 2

[getting older]

Fitted pair of Road Attack 2's just before the annual euro trip one up, miniamal luggage - 2,500 miles later rear is squarer than a square thing - to the point its actualy dangerous.( TP was 2.6 bar) previously had trail attack's - brill tyre IMHO - so;
a/ is the the normal expected life?
b/ assuming not, whats gone wrong?
c/ given I cant afford to change tyres 4 times a year and don't want an "off road" tyre whats the option? (trail attack now discontinued?)
any help appreciated!

Depends what you mean by off road.

Anakee and Tourance are both great tyres and IMHO not off road either.
Have moved from Bridgestone BT020 to Anakee two and I am delighted with the Anakees as I was before BTW. Why not give them a go. Get very good reviews for wet riding too....

Trail Attacks are still listed. I have RA2's on my 1200RT, & I think you're right in that they probably don't last like RA1's, but as RA1's are still available, try a pair of those. I've got them on my GSA1200, & I like 'em.

Had anakee 2s on my 2008 1200gs ,excellent tyre in all weathers ,good milage ,just removed with 7000 miles from rear with 2-5 mm left as going on tour this week an put a pair of pilot road trails on ,so im intrested to see what milage i get as there more road biased ,but if crap will have no hesitation in going back to anakee 2s

Indeed In Belgium at the moment, and when I lived here I could get 20K KM plus from a rear tyre, in Ireland with zero motorway I last got 3K from a rear tyre, so not necesarily how you ride but where you ride....

If you want the best mileage and good all weather grip, especially in the wet, try the Mich Pilot Roads. there may be marginally stickier tyres in the dry but you'll be amazed at the longevity of them.

+1, but they do not seem to be lasting forever, I have done about 2k on mine and they are unlikely to get much past 4k which is a bit dissapointing as I used them on a ZZR1400 and got 4k when squeezing 180BHP through them.

On the plus side they feel mega grippy in the dry and according to numerous magazine tests are very grippy in the wet (I just don't fancy pushing them in such conditions to confirm this) They also do not appear to square easily, did 350 miles over the weekend of which over 200 was motorway / dual carriageway (two-up with luggage) and they coped very well, I have had many tyres that start squaring after a couple of hours motorway use.

re Roadsmarts, I'm up tp 3K on mine and I reckon that they are on course to last around 6K. Not as much as the 9K I got from a pair of Battlewings, but the grip and handling is excellent and after last week I can confirm that the wet grip is good too. A change of job means that I am unfortunatly commuting 80 miles per day, 60 of which is motorway, so squaring off is inevitable eventually.

By default have ordered another road attack - will see if this lasts any longer, think the point of WHERE you ride is very true, time will tell. Thanks for the advice guys!

I did 2700km round Europe in April/May with R/A2's on my Varadero 1000, one up but with full luggage and all my camping shite. Now covered over 4000km and still tickety boo! How strange.

Agree that it must be where you ride
