Road Attack vs Trail Attack

A strange thought but its been on my mind for some time, so here goes.

I have RA on my 06GSA and have found them to be excellent, good grip wet and dry and even good enough on a couple of track days, but heres the sting, im not sure they suit the style of the bike and way its supposed to handle? Im slightly concerned i have compromised the inherent style of the bikes handling by going for pure road based rubber. I have been thinking therfore to maybe next time go for Trail Attack but heres the interesting bit if indeed any of you are still awake, leaving the RA on the front? That way i maybe get the security of a steady front but the enduro feel from the rear?

Anyone tried this combination either through design or indeed default?

How do you define an 'enduro feel' in comparison to what? A 'road feel'

I have trail attacks on my 04 1150gsa and previously had dunlop trailmax on. I have run them for a couple of weeks now and the first thing i noticed is that the bike felt smoother on the road, grip wise they are superb, i have about a 5mm chicken strip on my rear and can get the bike over so much that my boots often catch the road (dry days only i hasten to add)

All in all my trail attacks are great and im hoping wear wise i get good mileage due to the centre of the tyre being a harder compound.

Simple really you ride on the road - ride with road rubber!

I think you're looking for something that isn't there - you need to give your bike the tools to do its job properly i.e. if you're off-road give it knobblies if you're on road give it the slick stuff!

if you think trial attacks are an off road tyre take a good look,
they just look more like a on/off tyre, to keep in wi the bike, pure marketing,
they ride just like road attacks
TA,s are harder wearing , but so they should be , they are on a heavier bike than any sports bike,
road attacks , keep em for the sports bikes
you wont go any faster

I recently have had Trail Attacks put on my 06 Gs, ridden 3000m through the Alps and on London Roads [the more taxing] and I cannot fault them.

I asked the same question of several tyre places before I changed from the worn out Metzlers [OEM ]

At one place I was put onto their main tyre supplier who strongly advised me to go with the the TA's as they were designed for the bike.

I followed his advice and he said they are biased towards road work not off road.
But riding mainly in London Im not so sure. I have no regrets

I read a recent review where they [TA's] were tested against its main competitors and it came out 1st out of 9.

The test riders would all be able to get more out of set of tyres than most, so I would go with the Trail Attacks. as you will probably get better mileage and not really get much extra benefit from the sports based tyres

I don't think Trail Attacks are dual compound. The Trail Attack is apparently a slightly harder compound than the Road Attack, but they're both the same all over.

I loved Road Attacks, now have Trail Attacks and they're fine too (although I prefer the feel of Road Attacks).

Thanks guys, its great to get so many diverce thoughts, yes i proably am over complicating it but really just wondered if it had been tried! Will go for TAs next time (front and back!) just so i can see what if any difference there is!

I am looking forward to trying some road biased rubber. I have Tourance EXP that came as OE on a 2008 GSA, not really sure how hard I can push in the bends at the moment as the bike feels vague compared to my old bike. I am sure I will familiarise myself soon enough

My 08 GSA came with Conti Trail Attack's on it and they have been well and truly hammered from the off, including a fully loaded blast through the South Tyrol region. Not the slightest problem with them. Just over 4000miles so far, and plenty life left in them yet.
