The 1200GS is a great bike (& so it should be for the price), but the biggest disappointment to me has been the lack of protection from road muck thrown up from the rear wheel.
I've ordered a hugger but there is over a month's waiting list for them, not surprising in view of the severity of the problem.
In the meantime I've made a flap out of rubber belting and fastened it to the plastic compartment where the tool tray goes. This hangs down between the shock and the rear wheel and protects the battery and the area behind the engine.
However, I find the back of my left leg is still covered in sh*** after a ride in our winter weather. It's OK to be able to hose yourself down when you get home, but imagine touring on it and having to walk into hotels after getting covered in crap!
I was wondering if anyone who has already got a hugger could tell me if this cures the problem, or does it need the side panels from Touratech to fill in the gap under the seat?
Really BMW, should we really have to be doing this on a bike that costs £9400?
