Road Pilot 4 Tyre Pressures Advice

Sorry guys, I know this is always coming up but wanted to ask if anyone could help re PR4 tyre pressures (probably those of you running PR3's on your GS/GSA's). I have PR4 Trail's on my 08 GSA, fantastic tyre and running at 32/36 psi as per BMW manual since Michelin always say to follow bike manufactures guide. Asking as my previous tyres were Dunlop TR91's running at 36/42 recommended by both Dunlop and my tyre fitter. Many thanks.

32 is low for the front imho Why not try it and see if the turn in is slow and wide? I run 36/42 on Roadsmarts

On my Super Tenere I run them at 36/42 and they feel great. This is the recommendation on the Michelin website for that tyre / bike combination so may be worth checking there for the GSA.

I can confirm that when the fronts get down to 22 psi the bike feels odd. Must check more often!

If you let them get much lower than that I may almost be able to keep up on the B99, or maybe not!

Michelin website says 2.5/2.9 bar for the PR4 (i.e. 36/42 psi) rather than the 2.2/2.5 bar (32/36 psi) given in the handbook.

I got a,set on my s10 last weekend. They replaced the OE set of (rather squared off) trailwings. Almost felt unstable at first! Running them at 36/42 same as you.

Do I just need to get used to them?

Hi mate,

Mine replaced a set of PR3s and they felt great straight away. I suspect you do just need to get used to them after a worn set of more "conservative" tyres. I do recall the PR3s felt rather responsive after my Bridgestones too.

Heading to the channel tunnel in about an hour and thoroughly looking forward to using some tread!

Where did you find the recommendation. The only reference I found said stick to bile's manufacture manual figures?

Go to the Michelin bike tyres website (moto.michelin.co.uk). Don't just jump straight into the bike make/model search thingie on the left - it appears to be borked at the moment and dumps you into a catch-all RSS news feed. Look towards the bottom left of the screen and under "Quick Links" choose "Tyre Selector".

Click on the On-Road Tyres icon above the Search button, then find your bike using the make/model/year sections and click "Search".

Click on the "Discover" button next to the tyre that interests you (PR 4 Trail in this case), then click on the "Sizes" tab and you'll see the recommended size and pressures for front and rear.

36/42 works far better on the GS than the lower pressures shown in rider manual.

Yes, I agree with that and prior to reading that I emailed Metzeler, gave them my weight, style of riding etc and got a speedy reply from Pirelli technical recommending exactly those pressures. Very happy with 36/42 both unladen and panniered up etc. In my case I am running on Tourance Nexts.
