Road roar from front Metzeler

I've been running Metzeler Tourances for years without any previous problems but when I fitted a new one to the front of my '11 1200GS t/c a couple of months ago I got this horrendous tyre noise at anything over 30mph.

I contacted Metzeler (well, Pirelli as their replies stated) and they have sent me a new replacement and agreed to pay the labour charges to fit it, without putting up much of an argument about it and say that they need to examine the tyre before offering up any explanations.

I've done a thread search and come up with nothing similar and was wondering if any other tossers have experienced this ?

Comments (and the usual pi55-takes) would be welcome..... !
 
Second set Tourance Next just fitted - very quiet as last ones. I thought the only noisy tyres were front Annakee 3's, outside of more off-road based tyres.
 
Does the new tyre have made in China on it? If it does have a search under Chinese tourance.There seems to be some people who notice no difference and others who are not so happy and noise has been mentioned. I have had a set of these for the last 1000 miles or so and they are different to the German made ones in my opinion.

Funny that,
when i was riding the other day i noticed a noise from the front, the tyres well worn and i put it down to the warm tarmac, just got a set of tourances from tyreleader will check if they are chinky ones:thumby:

I find they make far more noise and seem to tramline more than the previous tourances. If you google it you'll find comments on here,ABR and ADVRIDER. I am going to have a fiddle with the pressures to see if that helps.
 
I'd be hard pushed to hear tyre-roar over the sound of the boxer twin engine to be honest......:rob

Same design as the German tyres, same materials, same grip - but "they sound funny". :blast

That level of analysis would suck the fun out of biking- for me.

All my Tourances have been as noisy as a Land Rover tyre, especially when leant over mid corner.

Now on Michelin PR4's and still get some tyre noise above 30 mph.
 
This isn't only Tourances. I went from Anakee 2's to PR4 Trails and the noise difference was huge. The Anakees were so quiet they could barely be heard but the PR4's are really noisy. Not happy about that at all.

Whilst the grip of the PR4's is superb I really hate how noisy they are....oh and they're starting to show signs of squaring off after only 2500 miles (the rear more than the front).

Sorry it doesn't answer your question but you're not alone.
 
Just checked my newly fitted front NEXT - relief ! ............its made in germany :thumb
Sherlocks said they only had the NEXT as no one wants the older tourance, Ive had my second EXP (now on 5000 miles and still going strong) on the back and had no problems but apparently some dont like em ?
Also mileage - must spend most of my time in the air because I got about 9000 miles out of my last exp rear and 11000 out of the tourance front :nenau:D

Riding is commuting ayr, pleasure, trips and touring in Europe most years (including mountains)
 
I get about 7K from the rear with minimal squaring off. I use two rears to one front and change tyres before they are legally worn out only when handling gets too bad. The last set were on for too long but the bike never gave any nasty moments though of course the handling was down compared to new tyres.
The last front did 14K but still legal.
It will be interesting to see how the TKC-70 lasts. They are more noisy than trail style tyres.
 
Now that Pirelli is Chinese owned, I suspect they may manufacture more & more in China.
 
Got Chinky Tourances on back then front (2 weeks apart), was wondering what the differences would be, rode like a pussy at the weekend cos it was a bit damp(understatement)

Got on last night, forgot about the chink, enjoyed the road and surprise surprise, the ride was fine, good grip, plenty of lean no differences indescernable.

Realised its mostly in my head - it might just be in yours too

how you lot get that kind of mileage out of tyres is a mystery to me:nenau

Ive never got more than 4k out of ANY make of rear,thats why im on tourances now coz they are cheap and reliable:thumby:
 
My "Quiet" Tourance Nexts, which I got from Mytyreleader just recently, were manufactured in April 2015 and I am pleased to say in Germany. Phew!
