Does anyone know for certain if the Roadlok from the R1250GS can be used on the R1300GS?

Their website suggests that there isn’t a Roadlok for the 1300, but I could have sworn that I read on here that someone had fitted one.

Bike not coming for 3 weeks. Never even thought about it last month when I bought and fit the Roadlok.

I use my 1250GS Roadlok on my 1300GS, but it did not fit without modification on my bike anyway. I needed to grind of some material to make it go free of the caliper.

Thanks for that. It gives me hope.

Was it difficult to do? I presume it hasn’t compromised the security of the device?

Do you have any photos, as I’m curious to see what it looks like after the modification? Mine is the red coloured lock, so not sure what it would look like if I took a grinder to it.

Cheers
Dae.

You can definitely get the RoadLok for the 1300; not having the requisite skill to grind any off the one I had on the 1250, I sold that on here and treated myself to a new one.

One point to be aware of is that if you lock it when using the side stand, as the suspension fully lowers it does put pressure on the locking pin, making it a bugger to remove. Don’t ask how I know 🤣

Roadlok UK have just told me that the Roadlok was changed to V2 earlier this year and now fits with the 24.2mm spacers. Apparently the box will say V2 if it’s the newer version.

It’s a shame their website says there’s no Roadlok fits the 1300.

I’ll be sure to let the lowering suspension do its thing and lock it when everything’s settled down.

Roadlok seems lika briliant idea. It's allways 'there', and easy to operate.

I bought one my self, used it on a 1200GSA LC. Easy to install and at first, it worked as advertised.

However, after a couple of years I had to remove it.

Ever so slowly it clogged up with dirt, and at the end the key got stuck inside the lock, and trying to pull it out the key broke, inside the lock cylinder.

It seems like the Roadlock favours a dry environment. Driving on wet and dirty roads (I live in Norway) seems to clogg up the lock to a point where it becomes useless.
As it stays put on the bike, it gets exposed to every bit of wet dirt, the way it is designed, it is difficult to clean it properly.

I fitted the rubber key cover to mine that Roadlok sells, never had a problem.

They do say to blast them out with compressed air every few months and lubricate with dry graphite powder, never silicon etc as that makes dirt stick.

The website got updated as a result of me chatting to the UK retailer. He was most upset that the website was wrong, especially that “brake” has been spelled “break”!

The guy was at the NEC and showed me how to identify V2 (R1300 compatible) units. The v1 units are rectangular, so with straight sides. The v2 is curved.

No doubt the roadlok is a excellent product.. but most of these GS's and similar bikes are being stolen are being lifted into a van.. so just to stop it from moving forward a good quality alarm disc lock like the abus detecto xplus alarm 8077 disc lock or similar may be a better deterrent.. together with the bike alarm.. When we tour we use the abus disc locks/bikes alarm and chain bikes together with a bike cover's.. out of sight out of mind.. however if thieves are that determined suppose it doesn't matter what security you have in place!

It's a great product but you have to look after it. During winter it gets a cold water hosing along with the rest of the bike after each ride, along with a dryer blow out. It's been serviced by Chris at Roadlok UK and my customer service experience was excellent. I tend to use it more on tour as it saves carrying a lock around in your luggage. There's a bit of a technique to releasing it sometimes because of the pressure on the pin but you quickly get used to it.

The main benefit is just having to carry the key and pin. Had one on my 1250 and thought it was really handy, esp on tour when there is enough to carry already .

See your point there! but but due to what you do need to pack on tour.. I find good quality alarm disc lock is not going to make much difference.. also a good solid 100 db alarm disc lock like the Abus 8077 makes a right racket if bike is moved even slightly.. that's the deterrent as the last thing thieves want is to attract attention..

I still have my roadlok that was fitted on an r1250gs, any pictures of the mod required to fit to the 1300? Its a lot of money to purchase a replacement if not required..

When did you buy it? If it’s after March last year it should be 1300 compatible. I’ve not seen an old version, but Roadlok told me it’s obvious as the incompatible version is quite square, whereas the 1300 compatible version is curvy.

I’ve had them on several bikes. No issues.
However, I might just use my regular disc lock on the 1300 GS as I can easily carry it in my top box.

I've just installed the specific model for the R1300GS, fits perfectly which would suggest they need to be exact for each model. Can't fault the quality though.
