I want to repaint my shabby rocker covers.

How the bloody hell do you get the bolts out of the rocker cover?

It looks like the seal has an inner lip and the shoulder on the bolt pinches this lip against the cover so no matter how hard I pull, it aint coming out

I have removed mine (2000 850GS) without removing the rocker cover, so it must just be a straight pull job. I am sure that St. eptoe or some other kind soul will be along in a minute to confirm

as the rubber seals age they bite harder on the bolts, suport the cover and press them out,the end of a decent hammer shaft will work

Thanks for the replies - I'm obviously being too gentle with it ;)

Success.
I ended up sitting a block of 2"x2" next to the rocker cover on the bench and levering the seal out against the block using a screwdriver tucked under the flange of the seal. Came out surprisingly easily. Pulling or pushing the bolt (and even trying to drift it out using a hammer) just wasn't working. At 16 years old I guess they've hardened up a bit :)

Mine had been in for almost 10 years so same issue but they come out easy afterwards, did my covers in Satin Black... she is a 99 1150 with 110,000 hard km,s on her:thumb

Oooh that's lovely looking. Love the seat and tray at the rear.

Replacing the rocker cover I ruined on a recent off road jaunt in cork recently, timely thread for tomorrows endeavours.
