I have to replace the needle roller bearings in the GS. Part of the cage has broken off one of them:eek:... No idea when that happened.

Question is, can the old bearings just be pushed through the rocker or should they be pulled or drifted out?

Thanks

JEEZ! I was thinking Rockers as in "mods and Rockers", not this boring twaddle:blast:D

Just measure the current depths and press them through using an appropriate socket.

I prefer a gentle press to a knock. A socket and a big vice pushing through into a larger socket or piece tube. Just make sure you don't dislodge the rollers when fitting the new ones.

OK, Thank you.
The new bearings came with a piece of neoprene tube inserted that holds them in place.

Bugger.

I gave the bearings to a guy, that has a press, to fit them.
Somehow he managed to kink the case of the second one and a section of it came adrift:blast

I did the second rocker in my vice. Piece of piss. Why did I let someone else have a go:bash

New bearing ordered....

All done and re-shimmed. Quiet as a mouse now.

A little tip I was given.
As there are always 2 shims used, once you get the correct float, remove the thin shim from the top and put it under the rocker.
This will stop any bits of casing dropping into the oil system and thereby toasting your motor as it is not uncommon for the casings to fail, apparently.
I do have the luxury of one-piece rocker mounts, so getting the gap right is easy:thumb2
