Roof Boxer - Any good as a summer lid?

Hi, I use by Boxer during summer, mainly with the chin thingy up (never been stpped even though some say it may not be legal?). Comfy helmet, and with tobinators on 1150GSA, fairly quiet. Recommended but probably need darker visor .Used it to go to CZGP at Brno last year, and with hot conditions, made life very comfortable.

Looks cool, but no vents = a bit of sweatyness.

Wot he said :thumb2

There are two types of Roof Boxer....one is legal to use with chinguard up, the other is almost exactly the same lid (the shape is fractionally different) but they didn't put the later type through the approbval process for being classified as an open faced helmet as well as a closed face one, so technically it's illegal.

The difference is the ring around the pivot point...the red ones (later models) are illegal, the black ones aren't.

I've got one of each and use them both 'up' most of the time..it's useful to be able to flip the chinguard down though if you're in sand or heavy rain.

PS MAKE SURE YOU SLAP ON LOADS OF SUN CREAM IN THE SUMMER or you'll end up with a big red burnt circle of a face with pale cheeks and forehead......DAMHIK ;) :augie :blast

The latest one looks worth a try....it`s got vents and a removeable liner.

I`ve got a Mk 1 and a Mk 2....both legal to wear in the open position while riding.

Both are horribly hot in high temperatures, mist like a bastard in the rain and let rain water down the inside of the visor to collect in the chin section.... yet both are surprisingly quiet and mostly comfy for all day riding.

The Mk 1 has the superior double D loop chinstrap fastener...the Mk 2 has the seatbelt type where the strap itself can work loose despite the buckle being secure ( I`m not sure what`s on the new one).

Have a look at the Scuberth J1 I bought one last summer Great helmet with built in sun visor fantastic all round vision plus chin bar protection :thumb2

Why bother ...

... get a Roof Roadster instead. No chin bar(s) to feck about with, and surprisingly quiet on the move :thumb2

J1 slips on and off easily with chin bar in place, but can also be used without...

I've got one of those as well - comfy, quiet, well ventilated, etc. But the little sunvisor is crap :( Barely covers my eyes.

i think i'd rather have one of these...

in fact i have :)

Have had the mk 1+2 the 1 was a better fit but I agree with the other chaps ,not great in the rain and need a black/metalic visor to look "cooool" Easy to put on +off but my tour X is still the favourite!:thumb2

Roof Boxer

I have owned one of these for about 6 years and find it to be an implement of torture. They are heavy, steam up with the visor down, the chin bar is impossible to close propely whilst on the move and too expensive. That said I still wear it but nearly always with the chin bar up, as an open face it's fine as a full face its poor.
