Roof Tents, any recommendations?

Daughter just bought the tent box XL.
On first time erecting same, one of the poles swung loose resulting in the need of a new windscreen. Don’t think she’ll do that again…

My only advice would be to check the weight, not so much from the perspective of the vehicle taking it but you getting it up there.

I couldn’t get my roof tent on my Navara without getting my brother in law round to help and even then it was a bit of a fight.

It’s a deleted echo.

I don’t know what’s wrong with my phone but it keeps showing posts as not sent then I try again and it’s there twice.

I’m blaming dodgy Lincolnshire internet rather than operator error.

Yeah the Autohome isn't really a one person job to mount it. Mine's essentially a permanent fixture.

I probably would have done that last weekend when I was sitting around doing nothing or even today when we went home at 10:30 because some parts hadn’t arrived on site but no matter what else happens I’m finishing here and away on Saturday morning at the latest.

Medical conditions? Hmm, we once (whilst working as a medic) had to get a young girl with suspected appendicitis out of a roof tent at a Landrover show. That was very, very difficult as she was in agony everytime we tried to move her. A tent on the ground would have been much easier both for her and for us.

Why Roof Tents ?
What’s wrong with a normal ground tent ?

Guess it depends on the type of trip. If its a road trip where the focus is on daily travel with an overnight stop then a roof tent makes sense. Rock up. Pop up. Doss down. Makes sense to be elevated when there are things that are going to chew on you roaming around so particularly usefull in oz, africa and british council estates.

If you are going to be static for a couple of days or more then ground tent?
For me a medium wheelbase day van with pull out awning and karsten inflatable tent gives the best of both worlds.

I've got a Ventura one, very happy with it and it's much more comfortable than a ground tent. It has a very comfy full mattress, duvet and pillows stay in it so no sleeping bags. When you park, it takes 2 or 3 minutes to set up, very easy.
Great in a car park or poor ground. And a good view from it.

For 2 or 3 weeks with wife, no chance.

Yep done this many times when we had the LWB Shogun it was really roomy.
I should have kept that car and turned into a sort of camper.

Yup, I used to have a Landcruiser and when I took the back seats out and installed a false floor, storage underneath, mattress on top, blackouts on the windows, it was a great camper. But the roof tent is a lot comfier.
I forgot about it when I said no more than a night in the car, it was a truck!
