I don't know whether it's paranoia or because I've just swopped screens (reflects noise up from engine differently?) or because something genuinely is happening but I've suddenly started to notice rough running at around 4250rpm. This is more than just because the engine management leans things out around here, it's definately rough - a sort of gritty feeling, not nice, and small vibes going through the bike. The bike revs up/down and through this area freely but trying to hold these revs as a constant (corresponds to low 70s on an M'way) is uncomfortable and unnerving. For the first time ever I got tingly feet and fingers after a 2-hour ride.

Does this ring any bells, any ideas before I book it in for an exploratory service?

Thanks.

You may have one or more of your coil sticks staring to fail. Fairly common problem.

thanks both, I think it's get me off to Bahnstormer. Unless someone in the Southampton area can check the balance on my throttle bodies?

coil testing

Hi Steptoe
How can I test a coil, does it need special equipment? Might any competent bike mechanic be able to do it?

Hi Bo
Not yet, had a local offer of help but now both he and I have been away and as the bike is having its 18,000 mile service on weds am leaving it to the service. Have advised them of the problem and, if I remember, will post any advice here afterwards.

Update for Bo

All sorted in the service, part of which is 'engine synchronisation' so I presume that's sorted it. Everything else checked, nothing major emerged so all OK. Nice ride home! Good luck with yours.

Thank you. I have just ordered a GS-911 and a sync tool. I hope i will get mine sorted out over the weekend:).
