Hey guys,

Parked the bike up after the commute on Friday and then went to start her up this morning and she did not want to play ball, only got her started by giving loads of juice! It was bloody cold this morning but was surprised even still.

So is the battery on its way out? or because its now due for it's service could it be that also?

Any help greatly appreciated.

Thank you.....

Do you leave it on an Optimate or similar when it's parked at home ?

Best few quid you can spend IMHO. No battery problems and guaranteed good starts.:thumb2

If it's turning over and not firing, suspect the FPC. If you are just getting a clunk when you press the starter, then battery.

Mine went last week, slow to start then died a mile up the road. Took the car and made a detour via Motorworks to get an Odyssey. Much faster cranking now when starting and more confidence that it won't let me down.

Used to keep mine on the optimate in the winter over the weekend if I didn't use it. Having 20W50 oil doesn't help either.

Mine has a similar issue although the problem may be completely different. I noticed a few weeks ago that when I pressed the starter that it fired ok but the revs dipped right down and it was on the verge of stalling and it just sorted itself out in time before it stalled. This continued until in the last few days it's got a little worse and needs a twist of the throttle to stop it dying.

Things to note would be:
My bike is ridden every weekday so it's not the battery going flat through lack of use.
My bike is garaged at night so it shouldn't be getting that cold over night.
It's the same story at work when the bike has been stood all day (under cover).
Once started, the bike runs normally without a problem.

It's about 1000 miles from it's 18k service and is booked in for the first week of December when the FPC is getting done. Just thought I'd post this and see if it's similar to what the original poster was experiencing.

The problem with mine is that the engine cranking is very sluggish and I had to blip the throttle to start it up. It did not do it again the next day which is strange but now will be a tester as I am off work sick for the next two weeks at least :(

Anyway's thanks for the reply's.

I get it on the odd occassion and think it might be the TPS going out of sync if you accidently opened the throttle or stalled the bike. It's only done it about 5 times over the last two and half years. I basically stop and switch the bike off. Switch it on and let it run through the checks, open the throttle two or three times fully, restart and it seems to be fine then :nenau
