Route Napoleon

Perhaps worthless piece of information (and maybe not even true?! lol), but I heard the whole right/ left side of the road originated from the Napoleonic wars. Basically the French cavalry attacked from their right to counter us coming from the left. Don’t even remember who told me or where though.
Probably a pub 😬

One of my favourite pics… this was in October, which in hindsight was not be a good time of the year to do it.
Brilliant sunshine day one to Gap, freezing fog on day two to Grenoble.
It took me 2.5 hours to do 12 miles, visor froze, eyes froze, I remember thinking that I’d bitten off a whole lot more than I wanted to chew. I spent another 2.5 hours defrosting in the first petrol station cafe I came across when I got out of the fog.
I did it again a few years later in June, a much nicer ride! Blackbird Route Napoleon_Original.jpeg
