Hi all
I was given a GPS from SWMBO for Christmas
, but the TeleAtlas mapping was (as well known by now) shite for Ireland. Anyways, having arranged a refund, I'm under instructions to get a replacement, with European mapping (at least as an option, if not pre-loaded) for use on family holidays etc. TBH, its going to be used in the car more than on the bike, as I tend to ride on routes close-ish to home and that I know well - at least for the foreseeable/medium future.
So, to the crux of the issue: the best choice I can see (within budget) is a Garmin Nuvi 350, which will do 90% of what I want, but I'm confused (no surprise I think - the more I read on up GPS, the less clarity I encounter). Will the lack of routing/track-logging or whatever you want to call it (i.e. the logging of a driven/ridden route for later upload or exchange with buddy's) be a serious short-coming?
Do those who use GPS to take/give routes to mates with enough regularity mean that it would be seriously missed as its not on the Nuvi series? A lot of guys appear to use GPS as a 'get me home from here' type thing, whereas other clearly use the devices to record a route in real time and then upload and swap etc.
I'm presuming
that the Nuvi will connect to my Autocom Pro7 Sport - so Bluetooth offers me little - if I'm wrong, perhaps someone would point this out, as it would effectively rule out the use of the GPS with the bike.
I obviously want all I can get from a GPS, but some compromise may be necessary, methinks? Advice, please? Thanks in advance
