Having had a brisk run home through the lanes of Devon and Somerset, i've come to the conclusion that the brakes on my 83RS are not up to scratch. At motorway speeds their down-right scarry.

Yes plan ahead and all that but I want better brakes.

Any thoughts of what would be a reasonable simple/cheap good upgrade.

Would something like the later twin piston calipers fit?

Better to spend money on bigger discs and converter plates 'al-a' GS's. The Twin piston calipers from the 1100's are just knaf. You could try calipers from the later 1150 & 1200's. Not sure if they will fit straight on though.

Looks like I have Ferodo FDB 108's fitted.

I take it HH are EBC pads?

HH is the brake pad material. Several makers ebay link

GG Pads is another option, softer compound than the HH and bed in quicker, but I haven't seen any for sale in a while.

Those Ferodo pads are awful. I have them in the front of my 100/7 so know what you're putting up with. I only fitted them because the HH pads rust to my cast disks.

Clicking sound from front brake

Hi.

Did you find out what the clicking sound was from your front brake?

No I haven't had a chance to take the pads out yet as I washed it as soon as got home but don't tell Steptoe:D

I'm away working until Friday so will have to wait till the weekend, but I suspect it's an undersize pad or worn pad location in the caliper. I'll take them all out and measure them, see if one is narrower than the rest or heavy wear in the caliper.

Ordered pads 'HH' rated only to receive 'AD' rated.

Anybody know if they are the latest alternative.

Flea bay quoted 'HH' in the ad no 290295720522.

Looking at the photo in the ad it does show AD. Called the vendor no answer but left message on flea bay.

Confused:confused:

Paul,

They are Ceramic/Carbon pads. Found this Link

I'd read the blurb but doesn't fill me with confidence

Quote "Could be used on off-road bikes front brakes for riders that don't ride hard" not that the RS is an off-road but but still.

Well I returned the AD masquarading as HH from a Goldfren supplier and remembered that Slimbo sold pads so ordered 3 sets of HH EBC's.

I now have reasonable brakes that bit progresivley and stop without twitching the sphincta.

Happy days :thumb2
