I've got both an RS and an two RTs one with higher bars than the other. I prefer the RS as I think it one of the all time best bike fairings. It is possible to fit the lower RT bars with an RS fairing. The R75RS that Proff has has got this set up and appears to be the best of both worlds.

Its not that big a deal to swap between RS and RT. You only need a different frame spider and the fairing side panels and screen. The headlight surround and fairing lowers are the same for both fairings. You could have an RT in the winter and an RS in the summer. Two bikes for the price of one.

Yes, you'll need unleaded heads...

It's quite expensive to do

R100CS and R100S both excellant bikes ( bung Castrol Valvoline in the petrol, saves getting heads re-worked ) but they are expensive. That is a nice one you have pictured

The RS and RT have different gearing but I doubt anyone would notice in real world of road riding.

If you take the heads off your self then you're probably looking at the thin end of £400 for seats, guides and valves.

every one I seem to come across at the minute has knackered valve seats and is I suspect the main reason folk are getting rid of them.

If you want to press a button and go then the best model is the 82/84 twin shocks (the closer to 84 the better) but budget for valve seats and guides unless there's documented evidence that it's been done.

The S fairing in the photographs look great but tend to cause a weave at higher speeds.

maybe ill look for one thats had the work done ,and with panniers,as i dont want to buy a cheap(ish for an old nail),one then spend £600 on heads valves panniers.
may go back to the drawing board ,do want an aircooled though

Easy question - to me the R100RT just looks too heavy and practical (although I absolutely acknowledge it's probably the easier bike to live with).

I'm not sure whether I'm only shallowly deep, or deeply shallow... but either way, I have to go on looks alone and to me the R100RS is absolutely beautiful and brings back floods of childhood memories. One day I'll own one.

Had a mono R80RT (1986, ex plod). Despatched it for 80k (on top of the 50k done by plod). Had the single seat and was undoubtedly the most comfortable bike I have ever ridden. Screen was undoubtedly the noisiest I have ever encountered. Thought about buying a higher screen from somewhere so taped an old visor onto the top as an experiment to see if a little more height made a difference - total transformation - so much so that I just left it there.

Would have another in a flash - except I just don't think there are any left that would make reliable transport or are young enough to be able to get European breakdown cover on.

Just having a look at the pictures of the 1000S on a proper computer instead of an Iphone. That front end looks as though it has issues.

The fronts sitting far to low. If you've ever mucked about with the ATE forks you'll know what a pain in the arse to sort out they are.

chers rob ,im gonna pass on that one ,its not had the valve conversion ,and theres no panniers ,only a small thing ,but i dont want to be spending more money once ive got it .

I built this RS a couple of years ago. It had without a doubt the best engine I've ever had in an Airhead but I just couldn't gel with the narrow bars. The bike was very quick (the RS fairing transforms them) but I could never really figure out what it was for. I've had RT's and they are a much more usable machine. For most tosser sized people your shoulders are wider than the handlebars putting your wrists at a strange angle and feeling as though the bikes toppling over in the bends.

Theres very little room to get wider bars in. Some people fit K 75S bars to give a little more lift. You can fit RT bars but they look a little strange and the fairing is shaped to provide wind protection round the hands and arms. Higher bars move your arms into the wind defeating the reason you have an RS in the first place. Higher bars also put your head in the wrong place for the wind coming over the screen.
