RSG.... shock protector ! Any thoughts ?

Ive just had to replace the, esa rear shock on my 2010 r1200 gsa.
Has anyone used the RSG rap around shock protectors , or something similar ?
Are they easy to fit and are they worth putting on ?

Fit a mudsling and the shock stays very clean, cleanest I’ve ever seen on any bike.

I had an R&G neoprene shock cover and it worked perfectly fine. Easy to fit via a velcro strip & 2 cable ties...and machine washable.

A mudsling is an excellent piece of kit as mentioned and will serve you well.

Helps to keep the shock clean. What about tempature? Would the shock have a tendency to overheat? I don’t use one so I’m guessing JJH

(1) Does it rub the paint?
(2) Does crap get trapped inside if the Velcro isn’t pressed tight enough?
(3) What’s going to protect the ESA or hydraulic preload gubbins.
I’ve not used a shock sleeve because I’ve not found the answers to 1 or 2 and it still leaves 3 unprotected.

When my 2010 twin cam went in for new wilbers shocks at revs it already had the neoprene protectors fitted.

This was the 3rd rear shock and now way over the milage to get beemer freebies.

At the time I asked if they would transfer them onto the new shocks.

There were not keen at all, for much the same reasons as above.

As has already been said, a mudsling does keep most of the crap away and allows the shock to air dry.

The wilbers have now been on for over 60k, uncovered, but with a mudsling and still going strong.

thanks..... ive got a mud sling fitted.... I just wondered if the cover would extra protect the shock
and from what ive read, the answer is no

Neoprene wraps work well ,but need taking off periodically to remove dust/dirt.

How things have moved on..... A mudsling does the job nicely.....

It reminded me of my first proper bike ... a 1975 CB200... and of course I wanted to protect the twin shocks ( which were crap anyway)

So two fairy liquid bottles with holes cut in the bottom for the top mount to go through, sprayed black , loads of grease around the spring, and instant free shock protection

My front shock ESA brackets needed some fettling but otherwise ok. TBH they were better condition than the rear frame**.
You could fit a shock sock but it will need seriously protecting underneath And an oily anti rust is likely to upset the neoprene. There’s also the access issue. It’s quite awkward to get at. Especially on GSA.

**Alloy anti rub shields on the back frame trapped so much crud they’ve not been put back.
