Going to look at a 2011 low mileage bike at the weekend.

Anything I should be aware of, or pay specific attention to other than general condition ?

RBW.

The switchgear (handlebar switches) is known to fail. It is worth asking if these were replaced. The newer ones were supposed to be better, though I had mine swapped twice under warranty on a 2013 bike.

Is it a private sale or a dealer, what sort of trim is it etc?
Also what kind of £ is it for sale at?

I know some run a mile from BMW Dealer sales, but they normally include 12months warranty and IMHO can be worth it for peace of mind as opposed to saving a few quid on a private sale and worrying what might go wrong.

yep agree with Wobble , that £100 you might save in a private deal might not be worth it ,if the bike goes wrong. If its a dealer ,haggle down the price to the lowest he will go then tell him to put 12 months warranty on it . This gives you a piece of mind

The bikes are great, If its got full history ,uptodate recalls done etc, it should be fine. Look after it and it will last for years. Enjoy

Used approved Bmw's come with 2 year warranty, 2 year roadside assistance and either £590 towards the finance or £590 worth of accessories if paying cash. I found the deal was far better buying from the dealer which really surprised me.
Best of luck with your new bike.

I can see that deal on a newer bike, but is that the deal on a 2009 bike, sounds a bit excessive.

Great info guys, its a dealer bike, specifically as i wanted the 24 month warranty but was not aware of the £590 contribution, which could be really useful so thanks for mentioning it Justin (going to look to see if I can find that in writing anywhere). It doesnt come with a topbox so that might help in that department.

Yes its a 2011 bike. Are valve clearances every 12k ?

Its an SE spec, my main want is Cruise, Heated grips, Heated seats, and they all seem to have that. ABS/ASC is nice, but not that fussed as its something else to go wrong. I just need to scratch the itch for a pure tourer, then see which bike gets used more.

As I have about a £10K discretionary spend cash budget I've decided that I'd rather keep my current 899 and buy an older RT rather than sell my bike and get a new RT (the cost is about the same, £16K for a new RT, or £8Kish for a 2010 MU bike, and my 899 is worth about £8K). Also the new WC RT is a heavy beast, and Im not totally convinced its better than the previous version (just my opinion, and I have tried both). Im also suspicious that the Euro4 stuff is not penalty free for a new 2017 RT.

I had to read the info regarding the finance even though i was buying cash and there it was, i got a nav v mount and fitting with mine for the £590.
Hope it helps Buddy

factory recalls up to date

One of these is likely to be the fuel pump recall - It will either have had a new fuel pump or a metal collar fitted to the flange which was prone to cracking.

Mine just got the collar fitted :)

Unfortunately life got in the way today, so I havent made it to the dealer today, also to muddy the waters a little I had a PM from someone on here with an awesome offer for an RT they were pex'ing.

On holiday from Monday for a week and dealer isnt open tomorrow so its going to have to wait a week.

Have you been, have you been ?

Best of luck with your new bike.

Don't forget necessary service and if needed new brake pads, tyres etc. + a years worth of road tax. Allot of these used bikes (especially with high miles) that are at the dealers will be there for a simple reason that mid 20K-30K miles service is bloody expensive and in turn they become part exed against a new bike. I have been told (By local BMW dealer) that is a quite common practice by BMW. owners. Yes you will be getting a 2 year warranty, road side assistance, road tax, service, etc, etc. But do not expect a great deal of discount as dealers have to swallow the cost of peeping the bike for sale. Servicing, valeting etc. However I still think you are getting a descent deal in comparison to other manufacturers.
