Hi everyone..

Just got hold of a RT and would like to convert the fairing panels to make it RS...

Am thinking it could be just the left/right panels, screen and dashboard...

Is this possible and has anyone done this conversion before?

Cheers!

You need the fairing spider. upper fairing, handlebars, bar pad, mirrors, screen, dashboard.

Keep it as an RT it's a more useable bike.

I agree, keep it as an RT. much more comfortable to ride, same engine and feel.
I had forgotten just what a good bike these are. we used to chuck them round when I was in the job and am rediscovering this and its mile munching ability. I found the RS bars too narrow and the seat too hard, couldnt go far on one.

The Met Police Special Escort Group used to have a kind of RS/RT hybrid. For less bulk in the traffic, I expect. Very pretty they were too. Don't know if they still do.

what is this hybrid ????

Depends what era you're talking about.

First Group BMW's were pretty standard 80/7's with Krauser legshields.

Next were basically K100's, but with K75C forks, & small bikini type fairing.

Then R1150's which were pretty standard bikes (R1150 S's), but with RT style handlebars.

Just before R1150S production ceased a last batch of 40 were made for the Group.

I bought some of the first SEG bikes 80/7 models in 1992 ( the bikes were 1978/79 models), the met used to sell their bikes at ADT auctions at enfield, before that they went through CMA commercial auction at merton .
Highly polished, with heinrich leg shields, clock and voltmeter pods. And the best part, they were the 55 BHP models, as opposed to the usual 50 BHP 80/7.

Also bought two of the the K100 SEG bikes, fitted with a cockpit fairing with a strange section of RT lower leg fairing fitted. Sold off at wimbledon auctions in the mid nineties.

Then all the met police bike sales moved to WOMAG auctions at witney. Not so good for me as the other two sites, as the witney auctions were held in the evening so every man and his dog used to bid on them, where as the previous sales used to be during the weekday, plus they also added VAT to the sales price.
