No ..... I am not tryin to start a fight :D

I want to know if the lump in the RT is the same as the lump in a GS ? I know cosmetically they look different, but is that the extent of it ?
REALOEM shows different part numbers for the complete engines, but if you compare all the internals, pistons, cylinders, cams conrods etc - they are all the same. Yet when it comes to the throttle body the R1200GS and the R1200R share a throttle body but it is different to the RT, but the injectors and idle control valves are all the same.

If you look at the Bing serial numbers on the TBs they are indeed different. GS is 77/47/101 & 102 - RT are 77/47/105 & 106. I emailed Bing to ask what the differences were (because visually they appear identical). They wouldn't tell me what the differences were.

So I have put a set of GS TBs on my RT (mostly cos they were very cheap and mine were in a terrible state). Plan to road test it tomorrow, but so far it fires up and ticks over as it did before.

The throttle bodies are identical but for one bean counter inspired difference. The RT ones are hidden behind body work and therefore bare metal saving ??? Per unit? The GS units are in view and are painted.

If I recall there were differences, certainly of pre 2010 models where the RT made more power and had different torque characteristics. Whether this was just down to mapping I am not sure.

Thanks Alan - is it only the latest GS TBs that are painted ? The ones I have are 08 and are not painted.

Oldnfat - yes you're absolutely right, the RTs had higher bhp it would seem - and the GS has different gear ratios, so maybe the different TBs were to get the best out of those differences......Along with a different ECU map too ....
