RTLC ICONIC

Now arrived number 92:D

Congrats and enjoy. :D

Picture of said K1600GT. I did pull the owners leg, because he's no David Bailey.
As I pointed out to him, we live in a beautiful county, with many picturesque villages that would make a nice background; so he chooses B & Q's car park:blast

The paintwork on this one was also done by 8Ball.

That looks very sweet...i had a double take, as i though it was an RT.

An Iconic Rt bit the dust today near Kincraig on back road coming from Aviemore, accident happened at entrance to the Working Sheepdog farm.

Oooh nasty. hope the rider is ok though.

No 29 of 100 in my garage as of last Tuesday.
I took it to Bodyguard UK in Daventry on Friday & had it fitted with 3m Ventureshield.
It took three hours because the chap fitting it is a perfectionist, which as a customer is not a bad thing, & he did cover every single square inch of the red paintwork, even inside the radiator intakes.
He has now done five of these, with one more booked in, so he's well practiced by now.

Had my RT Ventureshielded by Covertech of Birmingham. They did the job at my local dealer though, as they also did my H2 at the same time.

nice colour, but that's a hell of a lot of money to drop on one bike.

you could get a lovely used twin-spark RT and still have money leftover for a decent sports bike.. and 3 holidays!

But maybe they don't want a used twin-spark, maybe they also have a decent sports bike and may be they have 3 or more holidays
Its their money to spend
Your don't own an old 1150GS by any chance do you

:thumb Roger that.

Funnily enough Bodyguard had an H2 in; it did look awesome, as the Americans say.......

If any of you guys do Facebook there is a page for us iconic owners .... BMW iconic 100

RT Iconic no 71

Have just bought an iconic from my local dealer, and they gave me what seems to be a good deal, 400 off list, Akrapovic, nav 5,and free service, providing I buy it before Christmas. Ok although I don't really want it until next March, due to work commitments. Will have the protection put on the panniers, fairing and tank etc., but which is the best one to get?

Also having insured bikes for the past twenty five plus years, why is the rt more expensive than my gs and hd put together?
My first visit to this site, and it all looks very good so far, any help ideas, suggestions appreciated.

Regards Mark.

Its the Iconic that is expensive, normal RT are normal price. Also try www.1200rt.com lots of good info and a reasonable bunch. A few Iconic owners on there as well.

There should be good deals on any iconics in stock as they are not Euro4 compliant I believe, so have to be registered this year.

As far as insurance, usual answer. RT owners must claim more often and/or make bigger claims making the bike a bigger risk to underwriters. The latter is easy to imagine as a minor spill will damage all that plastic which might even write off the bike. On a GS you just replace the cylinder covers, levers, mirror & indicator.

Hello Iver, and welcome,

You've bought one of very the last few left then. I recommend the ventureshield paint protection Vinyl, plus the Pannier bumpers (from BMW).

As for insurance, just insure it as a R1200RT LE, with a custom paint job, Akra can, and top box, the bike is just called a R1200RT LE on the V5 doc....no mention of 'Iconic' on it.

Thanks for the advice,Ventureshield appears to be the best for paint protection on the fairing and panniers. The pannier bumpers are something I've not seen before. Having seen them fitted to your bike i'll invest in them to,did you fit them yourself, and if so how, do they push fit or require sticking on?

I'm sure I saw/heard recently that there are only three left unsold, so I think that issue will resolve itself"

The pannier bumpers are very simple to fit, as they are self adhesive, so just a five minute job.

Some people have seen this on the FB group but thought I'd post it here too.
I modified the GPS cowl on the bike to accept a cam lock that now means I can lock the GPS on the bike.
I was sick of taking it off each and every time I stopped the bike- paying for fuel, loo breaks etc.

I'd still be wary about leaving the GPS on the bike for long periods of time but this should stop a casual, opportunist thief.
