Round 'n' round in circles.........
I have a Touratech tank bag that I have had for a number of years now and I have never had a problem with it scratching the tank. This is possibly due to the fact that it has mainly been used on day trips only.

In the past I have never used any sort of rubber matting underneath it, as I did not feel that it was necessary.

But as I am doing a ten day tour soon and I intend to take the tank bag with me, would you therefore suggest that I used some of the rubber matting to help protect the tank?

Anti-slip rug underlay.

Available anywhere that does rugs, but cheapest at Ikea.

It's usually a shitty brown colour to blend in with wooden floors I guess, but it's the same as the black stuff they sell in bike shops apart from the colour.....and the huge price difference.

PS I don't bother, but I do check the magnetic flaps under the bag every time before I put it on....it's the swarf, old nails (where the fekk do they come from!!!) and other ferrous shyte that bag flaps pick up that do the damage.

The Touratech bag is not magnetic, it has two little clips that locate at the front of the tank under the lip, then two small quick release clips that attach to a premounted attachment under the seat.

I have had magnetic ones in the past and hated them for exactly the same reasons that you have mentioned!

In theory, the Touratech one "should" not need any matting underneath it, as the under side of it is very smooth and contoured to follow the lines of the tank.

Just seeing what other people have done really?

Yep - I cut a bit of Oxford anti scratch matting to shape to fit under the 'bra' on my Touratech VP45. No scratches after 86k intermittent use...

Mike:)

It's definately worth it for what it costs. Cheaper than Oxford stuff though Wilko's sell it in rolls in different colours.

Rubber matting etc

If the bag is held in place anyway why not try a chamois leather. I used to use one until I bought a baglux and it worked very well
