Just throwing this out there..

Im looking at the below. I aint been on any dirt roads ( although i do plant to try at some stage ).

So probably a more road biased tyre.

Pilot Road 4 Trail - seem to be good but pricey

Dunlop Trailsmart - new for 2015 ( 14% lasting longer than previous model ) I know their D212 gp is v sticky but unsure about Dunlop traillie tyres?

Metzler Tourance - gonna try these again, seem cheapish - the Tourance Next wore down weird ( front before rear ! ). No more next.

Continental - hard to get here and not sure of prices. Trail Attacked 2 or TKC 70

What say you ?

:nenau

I'm on Tourance 'standard' they seem more than adequate for my tarmac-based needs, would like to try the Next, next.

Really ? I'm on my second set of Next & love them. Admittedly there wasn't much left on the front when the rear was a bit slick-like but with just shy of 14k KM I'm not cribbing. Besides, one visit to get new tires rather than two suits me better.

TKCs look the business but they don't inspire much confidence in a heavy down poor. Metzlers this time.

i just scrubbed in my second set of nexts, the front did wear a bit weird alright but they didn't wear out too quickly, i love the grip, they give loads of confidence wet or dry

I liked the Nexts, but felt the handling went to hell by about 5K. But, I did rip them square!
PR4's on now, just getting them bedded in but think I prefer them to the Nexts. Mileage should be much better too.

Neither are any use for anything more than a gravel driveway. Jockser can testify to that. Linky

TKCs are amazing for the dirty stuff, have character but stick on road in the dry, and are truly terrifying in the wet. Plenty of them available in Newry.

Pity about the TKC's really......all i will be doing is commuting and the odd Sunday tarmac blast.

The next i wont try again. Im done with them. They started to go off a few months ago. I noticed in the wet and also in the dry. I dont like the wear rate and they are not as sticky ( using that term loosely ) as the Tourance originals.

As I said the PR4's look good, bu expensive.

Id of liked to try the new Dunlop Trailsmart, but not available yet.....

I think im gonna rock with the chinese made Tourance.

See, i enjoyed the original Tourance, but the rear did square off. I am v much inclined to try them again, BUT, i know the ones made in China re not of the same quality as the ones made in Germany. Its to do with the carcass and inner of the tyre, they are not the same. You can get a set in the tyre place for 210 appx as per their website, i will get them fitted myself. I dunno. Will check Newry to see what manufacture country they are from.

cheers :thumb

I'm currently on tourance, but the best tyres I've had on it were dunlop d607 fantastic grip both wet and dry but poor enough wear on the rear but it's the price you pay ( don't know if these are still available though)

Don't confuse the Continental TKC80 and TKC 70. The 70 is less knobbly and more road orientated.

Previous model of Dunlops the tr91 were superb wet or dry but a little short lived , the Trailsmart according to the boffins at the NEC are as good but linger lasting........... my next choice for the gsa

I have the PR4 Trail on my 2007 GSA, the grip on a dry road is phenomenal but I wouldn't trust them over even a slight dusting of road dirt !!!! I don't have anything to compare them to with this bike, I only have it a couple of weeks. I will try Tourance Next or Pirelli Scorpion Trail 2 next.
Call me petty but I don't think the look of the PR4's suits the big GS.

Another to be called petty here :p

In terms of look, I think the anakees 3 suit the bike rather well. I'm very happy with them, good all rounded tyre capable of copping with easy green lanes, although you will find that any sharp tiny stone will get stack in them.

Yes - one or two posts on 'the TKC' but i think peepes have not read the OP's question properly! I've not tried the TKC 70, but the journos reviews all rated its performance very highly. (including in the wet ..)

Yep - had two pairs of the original TR91's and was very impressed with them. I shall definitely try a pair of these 'new' Trailsmarts when my OE Conti trail attacks are shagged .... :thumb2

As said already, PR4 trail are too expensive for my uses. ( i need to keep money for track rubber :eek )

I wont see any trail riding or off road as sauch, although id like to. So the Briedgestone should fit the bill based on what I have read.

Re those new Dunlop Trailsmarts, if they had of been available Id of bought a set. Cant see them being available for a while yet (?).

According to dunlop the Trailsmarts should be in the dealers by March

I'm running Anakee 3's on my 08 adv and love them! But....have 5k km's on em so far and it's not worn, but I'm worried about the mileage on the rear, don't think it will be in PR4 territory (17,000km)

I had the Battlewings before this and they are a great tyre, great mileage but not as grippy as the Ana 3

If I was to suggest a set, whatever your bike may be, GS or tourer or whatever, it's simple, it's Michelin PR4!!

340 a set.....the BW's are about 225 ish - less fitting, but i have that covered. Plus ive been reading, some folkd are getting decent wear on the BW's.

The PR4 are appealing but for hacking and the odd spin, i cant see the value. Tyres in general are expensive.
