Rukka Madagasca-R

300 miles in…. But no rain to speak of.

A. The suit, despite not having a Gore-Tex liner or bonded Gore-Tex is heavy.

B. It has more zip vent things, than a zip vent shop.

C. Today’s temperature, at a guess, was low to mid 20’s C to occasionally high twenties and often very overcast. In short, warm to very warm and humid.

D. On the move, it’s fine, the wind penetrating the vents but, the cooling effect is simply down to sweat evaporation and being vented out.

E. As soon as you stop, the heat builds up, very quickly. Similarly, if you walk anywhere in the suit. That is not surprising.

F. Mine now fits perfectly, but I had to have it altered significantly.

G. After a few rides, the top will probably look pretty filthy. Great for that authentic ‘Adventure’ (with a capital A) look.

G. More tomorrow, as I might see some decent rain at some point.

Today, was light drizzle in the morning, enough to wet the roads and create a light spray on the motorway. I stayed dry, without putting the Gore-Tex waterproofs on.

After lunch, the rain was heavier. Not by any means a downpour but enough to warrant putting the Gore-Tex jacket over the top. Despite the seat of tge bike being wet, I opted not to put the Gore-Tex trousers on.

The Gore-Tex jacket goes on over the top, very easily and is a good fit. I syed completely dry. My trousers, despite me sitting on a wet saddle and having no Gore-Tex waterproof covering, stayed reasonably dry.

Verdict:

A. The suit, though not waterproof without its Gore-Tex shell, will stay reasonably dry in light showers, especially on an otherwise warm day.

B. Though I haven’t tested the Gore-Tex shell in a real sustained downpour, nor have I tested the Gore-Tex trousers at all, I see no good reason why they shouldn’t work.

C. Best use of the suit? I’d say spring and autumn and early summer, when it’s not boiling hot. For very hot days, the suit gets hot, when yiu are not riding along; even waiting at traffic lights, I could feel the heat rising. A lighter mesh type suit might well be ‘better’ for very hot days and / or use one of the water filled cooling vests.

D. The sizing is definitely weird.

I tried out the full Gore-Tex top and bottom, in the rain, riding up the M20 to home. They both worked well, with no annoying flapping.

Whether I prefer them to my Scott jacket and trousers, I’m not sure. I think for very heavy rain, I might well opt for the H-Viz yellow Scott. Better on the side of the road, too.

There they have all the trainers you could possibly dream of and all the big names, apparently and clearly not original considering the price (about 20 quid)...
It's quite normal for official production lines in far off countries, to make x thousand 'widgets' for the customer... then to just keep it running to make y thousand for themselves... so quite often the "knock-off" items are actually identical to the 'genuine' ones... I've worked in a few companies where we had problems with warranty claims... the serial number quoted was higher than the range we had !

A question on the sizes. I see Wapping said he had some adjudtments done. Was that to the trooos or the jacket or both?
I am not interested in the trousers as i have now 4 pairs of Rukka trousers for all weathers. The jacket i would like but i don't have the opportunity to try one on anywhere within 100 km of where i am in NL. i also have 4 different Rukka jackets, ArmaS being the oldest, Airman, another summer mesh one and a cooler but waterproof goretex one, Cant remember the model. All jackets are size 58. Based on experience would you say if i went for another 58 in the Madagascar I will be OK or are the sizes that far out in which case what advice
Thks

I am normally a 58.

The trousers shortened, quite considerably.

The arms shortened.

I had Rukka’s crap braces replaced, too.

It’s the first and only Rukka suit I have had to have altered. The sizing is bizarre.

dont the Rukka trousers in geenral come in 3 lengths - long, regular and short?

I guess i'm going to have to take the plunge and buy the 58. Price is god over here....FC Moto offering at just under EURO 990

Indeed they do.

I tried the regular and short, all way too long for my 32” inside leg.

As I said, bizarre cut. The sizing of the entire suit has no relationship to regular Rukka sizing.
