I was thinking of buying a Rukka jacket & troos, but I have great difficulty in working out what is what.

I think I understand that the Kalahari is designed for hot places, but what is the difference between Athos/Airob/Gobi/Armas etc?

Their website is big on specifications, but it doesn't tell you the function of the different jackets.

Since dealers with stock are a scarcer than rocking horse sh1t, the internet seems to be the only source of info.

Anybody understand the range?

I wouldn't buy clothing over the internet. Good fit is essential. As Rukka is a bit expensive you can probably afford a RyanAir ticket to a good shop in Finland, Sweden or Germany.

I was stopping by one shop during my Swedish holiday last year. I have had Rukka for many years and wouldn't use anything else. Was going for one of the expensive ones with cooling feature. Worked really well in the shop on a 30 degree day. It was cooler with the lining in than my old suit without the lining. Impressive. Unfortunately they didn't have my size.
Bought a top-of-the range Hein Gerricke for half the Rukka price. But I am so disappointed with it.

Maybe I need to rephrase the question more simply - for example:
What is the difference between Rukka Armax and Armadillo

Not a lot apart from the price i went for the Armax brilliant construction full body armour detachable liner and vents at the armpits? Also comes with a 5 year guarantee

Bought mine from www.customlids.co.uk via the internet they gave good advice which proved worthwhile but an expensive piece of kit all the same.

My old Rukka jacket stood up well to an argument with a deer and I would not have any other jacket!:thumb2

Just had a Rukka aramas delivered today (rubber zip thingy on the front) and well chuffed with it. The design touches are fantastic from the armour with holes to allow air through to the magnet fastening on the collar so you don't get Velcro catching your helmet lining.

I had a HG Master V for a couple of years which was great but a few desi gn flaws - cuffs that didn't seal and very heavy

I bought the jacket direct from biker land in germany and the price was a lot cheaper, I have seen this jacket priced at £999 in uk but i got it for 949 euros

Not cheap but what a piece of kit

For sizing go to a HG shop and try there stuff for size my size 60 hit exactly the same as a HG jacket

Been looking at the range myself and can't help between those two, but between the Athos and Armas, the main difference would be the type of waterproofing. Armas has a Goretex Pro Shell which means rain will run off the outer jacket, whereas the Athos has the normal internal Goretex liner to keep you dry. Note you may be able to find old stock of the Armas predecessor, called Armax, which appears to be identical aside from the new rubber zip arrangement.

I'm very happy with my current Halvarssons/Lindstrands set-up aside from the water-proofing aspect. And it's not due to it leaking.

I've ridden a lot of long distance in pouring rain this year and while the zip-in Goretex-style liner (Halvarssons use a similar tech called Dryway Plus) kept me dry, the outer jacket soaked up a lot of water and the constant blast of icy wind on it meant I nearly froze to death over time. The innermost fleecy Outlast liner and a thermal top underneath were no match for the biting cold.

For this reason my next textile jacket will definitely be Pro Shell based, but this means spending £600 plus. Not many manufacturers are doing it. Aside from Rukka, I've seen suits from Hein Gericke, Dane and Kushitani. Halvarssons again have their own version of the Pro Shell material and its called Nanosphere.

Another alternative recently introduced is leather with Pro Shell. Prices are crazy expensive but it looks like a great solution for British summers, especially if you're on a sportbike.

Lastly, here is a very good photo review of the Athos jacket and Unit pants I saw on ADVrider recently:

Check out the discount George White factory outlet store Swindon... was in there yesterday and they had a load of Rukka jackets for £350 IIRC
Didn't look at them but they had the florescent yellow on them

Just went to Yamaha of Brackley.. They have them in stock to try on!

Had the HG Master V jacket and would not go back to a separate vortex liner now - only problem with it were cuff fasteners or lack off and in hot weather here were no vents. The Ruka sorts both problems out

These guys are worth a look www.bikerland.de . Bought an Armadillo suit was in UK within 4 days,P+P 15 EU. All in all a hell of a lot cheaper than UK dealers. The water just runs off the 3ply laminate & the cool black TFL works, just took the liners out last night.
