Having limped back from Holland at Easter with a painful rumble/gring emanating thru the pegs I checked GFM in with a mechanic last week for a look-see. Some good news, it's not the gearbox as suspected, the rear hub has crumbled internally. Anyone got a good tip/recomendation for 2nd hand/recons? Th eoriginal is available for part ex

Euroclassics at Northampton may be able to help - does it not just need new bearings, though? Easy enough DIY job.

Not according to my mate with the spanners...

Special BWM tools required and Haynes says "Don't go there..."

The man at Motobins aid if it's got to the stage when you can fee3l the grind whilst turning the wheel by hand (and I could) they'd think twice before reconning it!

Have you a number for Euroclassics Colin?

TIA

I wonder why i bother sometimes -

i give you all great prices - i've done a couple of threads on repairing rear bevels - and no one ever asks me for parts .

Just because you can feel the grinding doesn't mean there's much damage - i posted some pictures of bearings and the tiny amount of play thats needed to make it feel as if it's in bits -

I've also got a 1100 rear bevel for £220 -

or it would cost £90 to have a new rear output bearing and seal fitted ( thats parts and labour) so don't get ripped off -

you don't have to remove the bevel, you can do it with it still fitted to the bike --

I'm now taking my phone off the hook -

Sorry Steptoe. Didn't mean to tread on your toes, but your geographical location makes it harder for us 'more northern' folks to give you our business. In Ian's case, I think he was looking for somewhere local-ish because (I believe) the bike is his only means of transport and, therefore, downtime/travelling time would have to be kept to a minimum.

Anyways - have you worked on these oilhead things before? :D

Thanks for the info Steptoe, will certainly keep an eye on any invoice. The BWM expert is very local so I'll try him first. If he can't fix it then you are top of the list for a replacement.

Rooster is right in that my only other transport normally is an XT225 but at the mo I am custodian of Matron's GS after her Off at Lands End so London is not undoable.

There is a service here in the south called, Royal Mail -

It's an amazing idea - they will collect parcels from me, and bring them direct to your door. usually by the next day -

Do you think it'll catch on ?

:D :D

While you're in such a good mood Steptoe, hows about letting slip your "surging cure"?

;)

It may well do but I'm never in when they come (work), the neighbors can't be relied upon and work (NHS) have a strict policy on deliveries to the hospital -NOT!
