My wife (Bobbin) has a Honda CBF 600 SA6 and the bike has developed quite a rumble when the clutch is out. When you pull the lever in though the noise completely goes away. :thumb Izzit anything to worry about? Any clues? :nenau She did drop it on the gearchange side whilst at a standstill a while ago and bent the gearlever a bit. Gearbox and clutch all seem to work ok it's just the rumbly noise I'm not sure about.

Clutch plates rattling in the basket; cylinders not perfectly balanced. Is it chain primary drive? Gear? Could be a bit of wear in the primary chain. Probably all three to a small extent.
Balancing the cylinders may cure or at least minimise it.

As I was bored for 5mins I decided to do a Google search on your behalf! There are loads of search results for what you describe and all conclude the same thing... 'they all do that sir'!

Something about just part of the CBR600 personality. :nenau

It's a rumble not a rattle. The noise is there at standstill so not the chain either.:nenau

They all may do it but I'd like to stop hers from doing it! Must be clutch related I'm guessing?

My search, as pointed out above, covered your symptons. If in doubt take it to a mechanic for a diagnosis.

In the meantime you too could do your own research with this little tool - https://www.google.co.uk/webhp?source=search_app simply type in what suits you best and trawl at your leisure.

Perhaps even do the cbr specific web forums, as I did! :augie

If you read my post I asked if it was a chain primary drive or gear. I did not mean the final drive - the chain to the rear wheel.
It appears it is a geared primary drive from the crankshaft to the gearbox.
When was it serviced last? I don't mean oil, filters and sparkplugs...
If it's serviced right it should minimise the sound.

A Honda with a rumble in neutral that goes away when you pull the clutch in? I'd just ignore it, but then it's not my bike. That said, my VTR1000 did something similar pretty much from new, the dealer's mechanic said not to worry, so I didn't and nothing ever went wrong.
