1. There won’t be an XR version.
2. BMW can claim almost 150bhp, but the shaft will lose about 20-30bhp.
3. Ducati has never threatened BMW sales.
4. KTM will not be worried.
5. Don’t get too excited just yet.
 
@Thenuttygser;the boxer with straight driveshaft because of horizontal crank looses less hp than a chain driven bike.Less than 10% and that is a fact.Our 125 crankshaft hp R1200-LC bikes put around 115 hp to the rearwheel ! The 110 hp R Nine T's around 100-102 rwhp !The new R1300 boxer should make around 135 hp at the rear wheel which is no 190 hp like a S1000RR but with the high torque enough to have some fun...:thumb
Can't wait to try and buy one ! After 6 long years the wait is almost over...;)
And if an R1300XR is not coming oh well a R1300GS-ADV will do in spring 2020 after the guys on the new R1300GS and R1300RT have the bugs worked out...:D
But I still keep my fingers crossed for that R 1300 XR ! That would be the ultimate road-bike...:thumb2

I hope they make it lighter not heavier - in 3 years I will be ready for an upgrade - the beta testers will have done their job by then.
 
Id love to tag on a ride with some of you boys who crave the ultimate in HP to see if you actually use half of it :D

All you have to do is use about half revs to get half power - so 90% of us use at ‘least half of it’ every time we ride.

You are more than welcome , I yearn after the additional torque gained by the additional HP .torque is you friend .
I take my GS to its limits and right in the top rev range and have little left ( not on the straights tho as that's just pointless) and its a great bike , just would be a nice addition for more torque as the chassis is so good.
The KTM / Ducatti have all the additional power but in a chassis for me that lets it down , so the BM with the changes will be a superb package.
My concern now is that after two engines that I may be pushing the current powerplant too far. My riding pal did the same , blew his as well as we both push the bikes hard. Here and abroad.
Now my comments are not to say ( before some start) how big my balls are , but after years of racing and riding on and off road and track , I have a good concept of fast and how to push the limits.
 
On a positive note, if I decide to sell my 2017 bike in a few years all the guinea pigs will have ironed the bugs out, go ahead go buy please put your orders in................:green gri

Ive sort of covered this before but if BM decide to base the engine on the now proven LC powerplant the improvements should be in the heads barrels etc so the main engine is now tried and tested alongside the smoother gearbox and clutch ( both of which were initial issues) the suspension works very well so no real need to change that , maybe just improve internal damping valving to cope with the new expected power delivery ( ie faster corner entry and exit speeds , which most suspension at its ideal is the setting to work back from)again with all these things now sorted the guinea pigs will have all the fun before the nay sayers , im up for it as I have full confidence in the mothership and will take the plunge .
Its time and money I agree but you could be dead tomorrow and never have found out.
