I don't think Im alone in enjoying meeting people but preferring to ride in a small informal group at my own pace and on roads I prefer.
With this in mind I am proposing a different type of run out using GPS.
I have attached a Garmin file with a loaded route and set of meeting points such as great views, cafés and popular destinations.
Riders could meet at a time and location, then set off alone or in groups to the next meeting point. The route to the meeting point could differ to suit riding styles etc. There would probably only be a small time difference between fastest and slowest between points. If you don't want to wait move on to the next meeting place etc.
Non GPS owners could team up or navigate using maps etc.
Is this of any interest or are there any suggestions?
How many people can open the attached Garmin file?

Seems a good idea :thumb and had no trouble opening the route file.

When you thinking off doing the run and is a 1200rt welcome? :augie

Not had a chance to look at the route file yet (no software on this laptop) but the idea is certainly interesting.

now then Sooty,
that sound like the sort of ride out that i could join in without worrying about holding people up, if your ever doing one on a Saturday you can count me in.

Sounds perfect to me too, I've only just started on the 650! Me and phooey are based in Leeds, we could make next Sunday or a Saturday another weekend (bikes in for servicing next Saturday unfortunately). phoo'll have a look at the Garmin file :)

Sounds like an interesting idea. Can't open the file though. What software should I use?

I'm using a mac rather than a pc but on the mac Garmin software (Roadtrip) the file needs to be imported rather than opened, I suspect the same may apply to whatever Windows software is used.

PS - it's an interesting route, I'd like a go at this one day.

Thanks for the interest. The route I attached was a typical run out I do most weekends, it was to check to see how many people could open it and use it to load GPS information. I have a busy few weeks ahead, made extra difficult due to clipping a dry stone wall and dumping the bike on Sunday. On my return from the Vossages mid May I will organise a trial GPS run out.
