Having just read the manual for running the bike in, do you all agree with what it says?

I bought my bike from central in Glasgow on friday and had no option to ride the quick way (i.e. M?way and dual/C's) the 160 miles back up north as i was working later in the day - the cardinal sin, i know - running it at a constant 4k for 3 hours from 0 miles.

I have since done another 200 miles and this has been on single c/way 'A' roads and town and i have been giving it plenty of 'go' but no full throttle up to around 4k.

Has anyone any specific way of running in they'd like to share?

Probably due to my diary the first service will be alot closer to 800 miles than 400 miles and also due to workshop availability with bmw in Aberdeen - this should be early next week if they can do it - bugger if they cant as im told that itmust be STRICTLY no more than 800 miles.

Thanks :)

Ran mine in pretty hard. Up and down the gears and found some nice hills to work the engine but never laboured it. Slowley worked up the rev range to around 5k if I recall. I also changed the oil (but not filter) at 300 miles to clear any potentiol crap and bits of metal out.

Done 48k now, is smooth as silk and has never used a single drop of the black stuff:thumb

That's the way! (Ah ha, ah ha, I like it)

Load is the key. Lugging or revving out not good.

Took my 1200 through the gears up and down for first 150 miles (the most critical) Alas no real hills here. :( Coming alomg nicely after the first 10k.

Variable load by running it in on roads that makes you change up and down the gears. It would be even better if the roads are actually rolling hills as well.

A / Dual carriageway will mean carrying a bottle of oil until 20,000 miles or most likely until you sell it.

Ride it like you stole it!

Have a read of the motorman technique.

I ran mine in that way, bit scarey I must admit but changed oil at 100 miles. Have now done 20,000 miles and it doesn't use oil at all and it pulls like a train!
