Running in

Break in !

Never bothered me as I can't afford a new bike but maybe this is what you were thinking of ?

I have two R1150 GS Adentures; a 2003 and 2004.

The 2003 took 15,000 kms to stop using oil, the 2004 never used any oil from day one.

Break it in using the BMW recommended procedure. Don't lug it, don't rev it and don't load it excessively.

Acceleration and high speed loads an engine, therefore, no full throttle acceleration and top speed runs. Vary the RPM. This has always worked for me without any in or out of warranty problems.

"Ride it like you stole it"? Other than "no thanks", no comment on that procedure.

To follow from my earlier post, I had an interesting test ride on an '02 GSA (12K) on Saturday. It felt smoother than mine ('03 GS, 15K) but it was noticeably down on power compared to Big Yella. I can't comment on how the GSA has been ridden, but my "by the book" approach seems to have left me with a good 'un. :D (Touch wood...)

Thanks guys

Lots of advice here. Just filled up for 1st time (think I need to adjust work life balance in favour of life!) to get more riding time...
