I am picking up my R1200GS ADV and taking it back to Germany, the millage will be about 400. I realise that i am going to have to vary the RPM during my trip back home but i was wondering what the max RPM i will be safe to use and what speed will that be ish, trying to work how long its going to take me, any help would be great

Don't let it labour, don't give it full throttle and don't hold a constant speed/throttle opening. Other than that just ride it normally.

Agree with the above. Am still running mine in. Gave up worrying about the 4000 revs. I was getting paranoid. Am running it between 4000 - 5000 revs at the moment, which seems good for 70 - 80mph in 5th. Hope you have a great time getting it there and riding it over there.

All the above advice is sound plus I was told it was very important to only start the engine as soon as I was ready to ride away, and not to start it and leave it ticking over while I donned gloves and helmet and so on.

Mine is sweet and loosening up nicely now at 1,500 miles. Plus it uses no oil. Whether or not my observance of these running in guidelines had anything to do with this, I cannot say. I suspect it might.
