It's likely your TPS is fecked, do a search on how to set it , 371mv is about right at closed throttle engine off, ign on, between the two outer wires going into it.
You can push the probes of a multi meter in there although some people use pins.
Open the throttle and see if the V ramps steadily upwards, try another TPS if you have one. I carry a spare on trips.
I've seen this happen on an 1100, it turned out to be the engine temperature sender on top on the motor, the thing was belching clouds of Black smoke out that were so thick it was difficult to follow..... just another option to investgate.
Because it stinks of unburnt fuel and is doing 140 miles to a tank as opposed to the 210 I was getting out of it.
Will try the TPS as mention by Timolgra firt as that seems like the easiest to check. I've never messed with it and the bikes done 60k now (although I've only had it for the last 20k.
Any ideas on how much a new one is???
I get a bit of black smoke when cold but it is fine when warm. Could be worth considering if the TPS doesn't yeild results.
I thought the Lambda sensor but didn't really want to buy one on the off chance if there was a free cure.
My gs 1100 was running rich , put it in prestige bmw bexleyheath and it turned out to be the c02 potentiometer. They replaced it and hey presto back to running just fine on fuel consumption.

Unplug it, the joint is usually cable tied to the vertical frame rail on the right hand side above the cylinder.
If it improves it's bolloxed, S'probably bolloxed anyway until the excess carbon burns off (good thing these Y pieces no cat to slow down gases and leave deposits)
