Wow I'd love to do a trip like that but I think the wife might have something to say about it.
Good luck and enjoy it 👍🏻

From one mackem to another have a great and safe trip love to do that

What an adventure, well jell as my children would say.

Hope the border controls in Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan are not too bad!

Would love to join you, but don't retire for another couple of years .:barf

If you fancy doing it again in 2019 then I'll definitely up for it :bounce1

Thanks very much guys
Just waiting to get the nod go to the Russian embassy to have my finger prints taken,
The luggage situ has been a pain, I've got a full set of wolfman luggage that I was very happy with then I've been reading posts about having stuff stolen from soft luggage, I adapted a set of rack off a 1200 gsa to fit my tenere, I've got a set of Ali panniers to fit the racks they don't look to bad the exhaust is on the opposite side to the gsa ,,,,I can live with that,,,,,
Taking things like lap top and gadgets I need to know its secure when I leave the bike for 10 mins, I've sent the racks to be powder coated, I'll decide closer to the time when I set all my stuff out,
I can get loads more stuff in the panniers and bags but more wait.

You'll end up taking far too much stuff :D

Don't ask me how I know :blast

I used metal panniers on my recent eastern European trip (taking in Ukraine and Romania) for the same reason as yourself. Laptop, camera and other expensive items were much safer locked inside metal panniers whilst taking a toilet break etc..

Deano I'm siding with the Ali panniers. I want to see how they look when I get them mounted on the bike and see if they feel balanced. Waiting on some extra wide foot pegs coming and a oil cooler scoop.

I've set up a link to my gps inreach that logs my route as I'm on my travels, it's a live link that will not start till 12-00 pm 5/5/16 when I leave. It will lay a track down on route so you can see where I've been (or fell off lol).
If you click on the link it will take you to a log in, put the pass word in and it will take you to a map with a live link to my inreach.
On the day I leave I'll switch on a ping that you can send to my unit so it will send back my location

On my trip through Ukraine etc.. I took a KTM 990 Adventure which was a huge tall beast of a thing. It fell over a few times and thankfully the panniers (Metal Mule) didn't bend although the brackets did come apart etc.. The thing is, they kept my DSLR and laptop etc.. safe and sound. One thing that did happen just outside the Romanian / Ukrainian border. I pulled over and took my helmet off etc.. for a breather and to look at the map etc..The bike fell over (yet again) managing to also land on (and crack) my helmet. Typically an expensive Schuberth S2 fitted with the SRC bluetooth collar. Such an expensive drop that was!

Anyway, thanks for the password and I look forward to watching your progress.

I can understand why you transposed your initials for password. Could have had one or two interesting moments otherwise!
I'm interested in the Delorme kit - is it also a reliable navigation set-up?

But, whatever, good luck with the trip :thumb2
