Russian trip

I can understand why you transposed your initials for password. Could have had one or two interesting moments otherwise!
I'm interested in the Delorme kit - is it also a reliable navigation set-up?

But, whatever, good luck with the trip :thumb2

Morning joe
It will work as a navigation unit If you use the app on your phone, it looks a bit fiddly to me, I've got two garmins Montana 650, Bmw nav 4 with the cradle, easy to zoom in and out,
I'll post more info on the unit as I get to grips with it on route

Cheers for the info.
Did you know you can use OpenMTBmaps on the Nav IV?
Downloadable for sections of your trip, for a small subscription. Useful as a back-up, I'd guess.

just my two penny worth, metal boxes are convenient, but not that secure, the locks on most can be done with a screwdriver in an instant you are just as safe with pacsafe nets or similar around soft luggage, and a small metal top box big enough to take the laptop etc. and you get best of both worlds, I have not done a trip as far as yours but in my experience, even if the volume is the same you tend to take less in soft luggage than hard!!! And dont forget NOBODY ever complained that their bike was TOO light!!

Cheers for the info.

Joe I've uploaded osm on the nav 4, for some reason I could only put Europe and North America on one 16gb sd card, I put Asia on another 8gb not really a problem but would of liked to have all maps on one card, the Montana was the same but I put the osm topa maps on as this gives me more detail for off road when I do the TAT and Asia, as a back up I've got the app called maps.me on my iPad and iPhone, it's off line maps that lets me zoom around very quickly, used it a few time now it's very good considering
It's free

Ok just a update on what's going on, I've removed the black powder coated wheels that were on the bike and put new rubber on, I went with continental tkc80 with mousses I've sent them to Greece so when I get to Corfu I'll switch wheels.

I've put a set of anodised wheels with Avon distanzia tyres that's more road going on the bike,
I'm in the garage at the moment playing with the Ali panniers and racks just to see how the bike sites with both options, Ali and soft luggage
I got a set of extended foot pegs made from a guy on the tenere forum very nice for a bargain price of £55 delivered. I believe he dose them for all the Bmw ktm models.

I go down to the Russian embassy in London to have me finger prints taken on the 19th April then it's just a case of getting my visa for Mongolia as I have a three months window to enter Mongolia from the date of issue so leaving that one till late as possible.
