Hi the paint in the hollow of my final drive is flaking off and it is starting to rust. Can anyone recommend the best way to treat this or is there any point asking my local dealer the bike is 09 with 7500 miles on it

Also would it be ok to fit a scorpion can from an 06 onto my 09 heard stories about running lean also how about Remus headers as I have both

2008 GSA SIMILAR ISSUE

My bike has a similar issue. Rust on the edge of the tube - I forget the real name for the part.

BMW Canada is replacing the entire final drive under warranty as you cannot buy that part separately. My bike is an '08 GS-A with 20,000 KM on it. The dealer and I have a good relationship, but they were skeptical that the repair would be approved. They had seen similar things that were more "normal" wear and tear. They contacted BMW Canada on my behalf for approval for the repair. My bike comes off warranty sometime this month.

It looks like the metal was not clean (probably had oil on it) when it was plated. The coating started to flake and then the metal underneath rusted.

I would post a photo, however, I am not sure how to do that...I can always email one to you if you like... [email protected]

You could try a warranty claim I guess but if not, rub it down and use hammerite silver which is a close match:thumb

You'll have no problem with the Scorpion can and headers but I would suggest you keep the baffle in the can as they run better with a bit back pressure in my experience.
